Portsmouth Lady Trojans 2025-26

The Portsmouth Lady Trojans open up the 2025-26 as the reigning D5 State Champions. PHS defeated Creston Norwayne 53-38 to capture the 1st Lady Trojans state title in school history. PHS returns 4 starters from that team. They are:

Sienna Allen…6-0 SR…13.8 PPG…signed with Ohio University
Hayven Carter…5-10 JR…10.5 PPG
KeKe Woods…5-5 JR…12.4 PPG
KK Mays…5-11 SR…5 PPG…signed with Shawnee State

Filling out the roster are:

Brianna Shannon…5-11 JR…part time starter
Sky Mays…5-10 SO
Salem Allen…5-7 SO
Abi Whitt…FR

Head Coach: Amy Hughes…Assistant: Mike Hughes

The Lady Trojans’ defense carried them throughout the tournament. Look for more of the same this season, as Coaches Amy and Mike Hughes employ pressure over the whole court forcing opponents into numerous turnovers.

PHS will play a demanding schedule, no doubt one of the toughest in the state for a D5 school. D1 schools are indicated.

Hopefully there’s a couple of freshmen or someone who didn’t play that comes out for some depth. Playing with 7 girls will be rough.

Thanks Dave.
I’d like to add Freshman Abi Whitt is also on the roster.

Thanks, Moses Guthrie, for the info. I will add her to the roster posted above. Good to have her on the team.

The Lady Trojans won the state with only 9 girls on the roster. With FR Abi Whitt, that gives the PHS 8 girls on the 2025-26 roster. 3 years ago the Lady Trojans made it to the district final with only 6 girls.

30 Point Games by Lady Trojans:

Peighton Williams: 41 vs. Huntington Ross
Rosalind Hairston: 40 vs. Greenup County
Marvetta Froe: 34 vs. Northwest
Daysha Reid: 33 vs. Whiteoak

Why are their numbers so bad? You would think with all the success they’ve had every girl in the district would want to play

I said the same thing.

The Lady Trojans scrimmaged Cincinnati Princeton this past Saturday, and made a very strong showing against last season’s D1 State Runnerup. Don’t know the overall score, probably didn’t win it, but the Princeton coach was highly complimentary of the Lady Trojans’ defense. It was PHS’s defense that carried them to the state title last season. Looks like more of the same this season. Princeton started a mostly junior lineup.

Portsmouth’s State Championship last season was the first state title in basketball for any OVC school, boys or girls.

The Lady Trojans defeated D1 West Clermont on Saturday 67-60 in a scrimmage at PHS. Clermont has an enrollment of 886 girls, compared to 143 for PHS. Princeton has an enrollment of 752 girls. So far the Lady Trojans have taken on two Goliaths and have done very well. Clermont is reputed to be a top 10 D1 team this season.

Don’t have any specific details, but the Lady Trojans did well in their scrimmage vs. Lakota West last Saturday.

The Lady Trojans open the season on Saturday at the Journey to the Tourney at Winton Woods. PHS will play D1 Olentangy. Approximate starting time is 3:30 PM.

Let’s go Lady Trojans!! Defending D5 State Champions!!

Lady Trojans who averaged at least 1,000 points for their careers: Exact totals not known. Some Graduation years are listed.

Peighton Williams…1,589
Sienna Allen…1,000+ career still in progress
Daysha Reid…1,000+ (2025)
Belinda Carter (Greene).1,000+
Kristin Young…1,000+
Rosalind Hairston…1,000+
Tonya Miranda…1,000+

Lady Trojans who scored at least 30 points in a game. Also listed is the year it was accomplished.

Peighton Williams…41 vs. Huntington Ross (2012)
Rosalind Hairston…40 vs. Greenup Co. KY (1986)
Marvetta Froe…34 vs. Northwest (1985
Daysha Reid…33 vs. Whiteoak (2022)

The Lady Trojans opened up the 2025-26 season with a 67-65 loss to D1 Olentangy on Saturday at the Journey to the Tourney at Winton Woods. PHS only had 6 girls available, but still gave Olentangy all they could handle. The Braves went on a run to go up 59-52, but the Lady Trojans fought back and had a chance to tie the game at 67 but missed a game tying shot. Missed FT’s in the final few minutes were costly for PHS. Olentangy beat Dayton Chaminade Julienne on Sunday 60-54.

Portsmouth will return to the hardwood on Dec. 2 as they will host OVC foe Chesapeake. PHS went a perfect 14-0 last season in OVC play.

6?! How do they not have anymore available at this point? Wouldn’t you want to join a team coming off of a state championship with a chance to repeat?

danicalifornia: There was one girl who had other extracurricular obligations, while another girl apparently quit the team. Going forward, they will have 7 girls on the roster unless something changes. Pretty remarkable that our girls played Olentangy that tough with such a short bench. We’ll see how that affects them over the course of the season.

Don’t know why Portsmouth can’t get more girls out for the basketball team, but it is what it is. Foul trouble is the main concern going forward. The starting 5 is absolutely one of the best in all of D5.

Wow. Pretty unheard of for such a talented program. Which player is no longer with the team? There’s no roster on max preps

Corner3: Not saying this is a permanent thing, but Brianna Shannon is no longer with the team. Don’t know the reason it came to this. She was a part time starter last season, but in most games came off the bench and gave the Lady Trojans good minutes. She’s only a junior, so maybe the situation can be rectified.

I have posted the roster above in my introductory post. You don’t have to go to MaxPreps to find it.

What’s frustrating is that we have had bad girls teams in the past that had 10-12 girls on it. We currently have a defending state championship team that has only 7 girls now. Puzzling to say the least. If this team doesn’t make the Final 4 or repeat as state champions, it will probably be because of the lack of depth. Foul trouble and fatigue are very valid concerns.
