It’s terrible that we lost a player. But we have always held our players to high standards on and off the court so hopefully she will figure whatever happened out and overcome it.
But honestly how many players did we really use last year in the tournament? We still have OU commit…Sienna, Shawnee State commit KK Mays, Ohio State recruit H Carter, and KiKi who is well on her way to college athletics (prob basketball but I hear she may be better at track) Not to mention the younger Allen girl and younger Mays girl. No other D 5 school in Ohio compares to that roster.
Add in Amy as our fearless leader…..we should be ready to repeat! People better watch out for the Trojans!!!
Good post, TrojanDon. I just hope that our Lady Trojans can navigate a short roster against one of the toughest schedules in all of D5 Ohio. In the tournament, quite often a team only plays 7-8 players anyway. We have a coaching staff in Amy and Mike Hughes who managed a 9 girl roster last season into a state championship. It’s still a challenge, though, to have 2 fewer girls than last year. There is absolutely no question that this year’s Lady Trojans have what it takes to repeat. I’m just hoping that our current roster can be stable for the rest of the season.
Portsmouth was off to a rough start in this game. Some early scrappy play by Peake kept it interesting for about 5 minutes before Portsmouth was able to start making some baskets. Then they took care of business 65-17.
DBL(_)7: There were 2 banners that were supposed to be unveiled. I don’t know if you were there, but if you were, you certainly would have had to see the one on the wall that was unveiled. The one that was supposed to be pulled down didn’t come down due evidently to it having a knot which prevented it from being lowered. That banner was actually fully on display at the boys game last Saturday.
The Lady Trojans raised their record to 1-1 with that 65-17 win over the Lady Panthers. Hayven Carter led PHS with 21, KeKe Woods had 19, and Sienna Allen had 17. PHS has now won 28 of their last 29 OVC games, with the only loss being to Fairland 2 years ago when PHS and FHS tied for the conference title with a 13-1 record.
The Junior High Lady Trojans beat Wheelersburg 27-10 in the game prior to the varsity contest. The future looks good for the Lady Trojans the next several years with quite a few of these girls coming up to the high school next year. Next year’s varsity should have at least 10 girls playing because from what I understand is this group of Lady Trojans are all in on playing.
Portsmouth travels to Ironton on Friday to take on the Lady Fighting Tigers.
Trojans beat Ironton 91-4, no that’s not a typo lol. Only allowed 1 field goal, that was in the first half. Forced 46 turnovers, this with 5 players the whole game (no bench). Lol
Carter was ejected in the first quarter, Shannon quit the team and I’m unsure of the status of the lone freshman of the team Whitt, but she wasn’t there tonight, she may not be on the team anymore either.
Really ugly scene tonight in Ironton. Glad the girls could overcome the early adversity. We all know how Coach Amy is and she will get it under control. As always our defense was dominate. Tons of turnover and easy points. Just don’t think anybody can handle our pressure. As long as we keep fielding a team we are still on pace for back to back titles.
That team is totally out of control dancing on the floor as time expires tonight is not a good look. Portsmouth City Schools should be embarrassed of what is being allowed to continue to happen.
You’re an idiot lol. 1 girl who just dropped 31 points and had about 50 steals danced with about 5 seconds left on the clock after they just held their rival school to 4 points on said school’s home court and you want the whole team and this girl crucified. Shes a 16 year old girl man, get out of your feelings you grown ass man.
After viewing last nights game. This Lady Trojan basketball could be a wonderful team to watch. Unfortunately the coach has zero class and control of her team. Last nights game was clearly a prime example of an out of control classless basketball program. It appeared there was administrative staff there from Portsmouth that witnessed the behaviors from the players and lack of control on both the coaches and players. Portsmouth has every chance to win state again back to back. But when you play the type of out of control behavior basketball there is always a risk of losing control of emotions. Portsmouth had the W before the 1st quarter was over. Is there really any point of blowing a team out the way they did. If that is what you have to do as a team then do it with class. Not with classless sportsmanship. This reflects the leadership of the school and coaches and administration. Go Eagles!
Was Portsmouth just supposed to lay down and play keep away the rest of the game and not attempt any shots?? Ironton needs to get better. I know a great recruiter who is the AD/football coach there, perhaps he can help! They need it.
Give me a break, Ironton is just that bad. Portsmouth could have scored more if they wanted to. It was a running clock, what do you want them to do? Come up the court and just stand there, maybe give Ironton the ball, cut them a break? Ironton football showed no mercy to Portsmouth football over the last 5-6 years and that’s okay. But when Portsmouth has a state level team they just have to lay down because the opponents aren’t as good? Cry some more
You can have yours sure, but you’re definitely a grown man on here crying over a teenage girl dancing after she and her team beat the breaks off of their rival…what an opinion to have lol
I don’t have a dog in the fight not from either school matter of fact. I go and watch good local talent all over the tri state. All I am saying if your a championship program act like one. But this wasn’t even just the ball club. This was the players, coaches, spectators from Portsmouth. They all acted ridiculous. Yes you can come down shoot all outside shots pass the ball around. You don’t have to drive and score. Can’t change my view of the poor sportsmanship.
