Southern won 48-0 last year.
This game should secure Southern's "winning season".
Just curious, how many times they have won 6 or more games in a season?

Re: WK6 Federal Hocking (0-5) @ Southern (5-0)
I believe 2007 they went 6-4. 2013 was a winning record....not sure if it was 6-4 or 7-3. Other than that I am not sure of years with more than 6 wins
Southern went many years where 2-3 wins was the norm. Also went through a stint where not winning a game all season was expected.

What happened to Federal Hocking? It wasnt that long ago that they were a very strong football program. What changed?

I knew they went 8-3 in 2013. I couldn't remember the 2007 season until now. Wasn't Teaford the head coach?

Looks like with more wins they had total last year in week 5 Southern is rated as the 10th most improved team in the state so far this year at the half way mark.

Memory is a little foggy on who the coach was in 2007. Ether Teaford or the guy before him. Can't remember his name but I know he was the superintendent.

Maybe it was the current Nelsonville York Head Coach Rusty Richards? I know he he was the Head Coach at Southern in the 2000's?

Going way back 1978 or so, Bill Jewell had a good thing going as well at Racine, a teachers strike hurt a good team. Players like Martin Bush, Scott Souder, Kelly Winebrenner, Eric Dunning, Danny Dudding, Steve Hill, and a host of others. Numbers were in the fifties for players, and played in the old SVAC. Everyone seems to forget about coach Jewell. He left and went to the dark side, Wahama. Where he enjoyed beating the Tornadoes.

Rusty was at southern for 2 years and that was like 16 years ago.MeyerSpread wrote:Maybe it was the current Nelsonville York Head Coach Rusty Richards? I know he he was the Head Coach at Southern in the 2000's?
He got a job teaching at NY was an assistant under Meade for a couple years but Davey didn't keep him when he took over. Coach Richards took a couple years off then went to work for Phil over the hill.

Did a little digging. The coach in the 2007 season was Dennis Teaford. Had some size and talent on that team. Probably would have made playoffs if they had beat South Gallia that year.

I checked the Joe Eitel page and In the 2007 season southern went 2-8. The 2006 team i think is the one you are referring too. They went 6-4 and lost a few close ones.
And that's the bottom line, b/c Stone Cold said so....

Wasn't that the year that Fed, Waterford, Eastern, and Trimble were all in the mix for the playoffs late in the year?Fonzie wrote:MeyerSpread wrote:Maybe it was the current Nelsonville York Head Coach Rusty Richards? I know he he was the Head Coach at Southern in the 2000's?

You are correct. I was thinking of the class of 2007 who were seniors on that team. Which would have made it the 2006 football season. Thanks for the correction!

I believe you are correct. One of the most competitive years in the TVC Hocking that I can remember.
