Visiting Vinton County placed three players in double-figure scoring Saturday night in a 53-35 triumph over Gallipolis on the GAHS hardwood in Centenary.
Derren Jones paced the Vikings with 12 points. Jordon Albright and Max Ward added 10 apiece while Tris Bartoe finished with eight and Chase Wood seven.
Mike Putney and Alex White led GAHS with 11 points each. Wes Jarrell finished with six before fouling out.
Vinton County sank 20 out of 38 field goal attempts for 52.6 percent. At the line, VCHS sank 10 of 13 freebies for 76.9 percent. Vinton County had 18 turnovers, eight in the first period. The Vikings picked off 18 rebounds, seven by Albright. The visitors had 12 personal fouls.
Gallipolis sank 13 out of 41 field goal attempts for 31.7 percent. At the line, GAHS was nine of 13 for 69.2 percent. Gallipolis picked off 28 rebounds, led by Alex White’s 10 snags, The Blue Devils had 16 turnovers and 13 personal fouls. The two teams battled to a 10-10 first period draw. The Vikings then outscored GAHS 16-2 in the second period for a 26-12 halftime lead, then led 44-23 going into the final period.
Vinton County improved to 9-3 overall in the non-league game. GAHS dropped to 2-12.
Gallipolis’ freshmen opened the evening with a 45-27 win over the VCHS yearlings. GAHS led 9-4, 14-12, and 28-21 at the quarter marks.
Kaden Thomas led GAHS with 17 points, B. Simms added 10. Bryce Damron led Vinton County with 10 points. Vinton County dropped to 6-4 on the year.
In the JV game, Vinton County improved its season record to 10-1 with a 54-11 win over the Blue Imps.
VCHS led 14-2, 25-5 and 43-7 at the quarter marks. GAHS dropped to 4-10 on the year.
Justice Sellers led GAHS with four points, Naylan Yates totaled 15 for the Little Vikings.
Gallipolis will host Pt. Pleasant in a tripleheader on Tuesday. Vinton County will battle Nelsonville-York in a TVC game on Jan. 23 in McArthur.
