What are your thoughts? Last FU puts the Vikings out by playing a very physical game. Do they play the same style this year?
…I absolutely see FU playing a physical game again … Stewart for FU ONLY knows how to play a physical game LOL … it’s in his DNA … I posted on the Elite 8 thread that the key to a Vinton County “W” Friday night will be how well VC is able to take the FU PG Jordan Barr out of the game … take the ball out of Barr’s hands, force others on the FU side to run the offense … without the ball in his hands Barr is not able to dictate the game either by shooting from the perimeter or getting into the paint and distributing the ball … taking the ball out of Barr’s hands limits FU offensively ( it will keep FU under 50 - a VC defensive goal) … it will mean VC is able to turnover FU on the perimeter … Logan was able to control Barr in the Chieftains win over FU last Saturday night at Fairfield Union - LHS switched up defenders on Barr, going with a quick defender mixed with a defender with length to make it difficult for Barr to get his shot from behind the arc … imo the equation is to limit Barr’s touches, force the rest of the FU team to “run the show” IF the Vikings are effective in making Barr a spectator I see Vinton County moving on in the survive and advance season to the next round …
If I remember correctly, the pg for FU was just a Freshman last year. VC has done well this year with Alex and Bryce Owings playing defense on “shooters or pg’s” and limiting their input in the game. VC needs to be ready from the tip and not have to make changes during the game!! They have to defend the 3 point line early and rebound the ball. Free throws will be a deciding factor in this game. Make them and you win. Miss them, and get ready for graduation or next season.I know the boy that lit VC up for 28(?) or so points last year, was a senior. Can’t remember his name, but he was a quality ball player. VC needs to ready for a physical game and not end up with the wrong end of foul trouble due to this factor. Looking forward to the rematch. Let’s go Vikings, the most important game of the season if Friday!!
Derek Clark for FU put up 31 vs VC in that 63-55 Fairfield Union “W” … I just checked my napkin stats on this seasons FU vs Logan Elm ( FU got the win 50-45) … Barr went off for 23 points (3 treys) … from last seasons club that beat VC - they return Jordan Barr,Josh Stewart, David Wolshire, Sam Green all started in last years sectional win … looking at the napkin stats of FU vs LE … the FU starters had 14 fouls called against them - physical play … FU went 7 deep vs LE this season vs VC LAST season in the sectional FU went 8 deep (15 fouls) … Vinton Co. needs to handle the physicality of the game - it will happen - have to stay focused on what Coach Combs wants them to get down at both ends of the floor with Jordan Barr being the “center” of attention … last game between these 2 teams VC - 10 TOs on the game while forcing FU into 20 TOs … VC struggled from long range 1/18 from behind the arc … FU was slightly better hitting 4/15 threes … anyway you look at it this game with be a dandy … “the winner will be the team who can keep their heads when all about them are losing their’s” … they don’t reserve the Cheap Seats in the Land of Purple … will have to get there early to get the true cheap seat location.
pfloyd, how soon after they clear the gym from the Athens game will they open the doors. Can you come a little early, buy your ticket and get in a line at the door???

Like your prediction Eaglenest!! The Vikings need to be physical and up tempo from the tipoff!! Ice storm tonight but temps in the upper 40’s by noon. Hopefully if school is cancelled, the game will still be on!!
VC has lost 4 games this season and have responded well after each of the first 3. After the loss to Athens, the Vikings won 7 straight, including wins over some very good teams. I think the maroon will come out firing. Coach Combs hasn’t won an average of 17 games a year by accident. Good luck boys!

48-40 VC 55.1 left in the game . Stewart fouls out for FU and Freshman Jordan Albright has made 6 crucial free throws in a row. Exciting game for the Viking fans!!! One of the better games I have seen this year.
