I have always thought this rule was a big problem. Is it this celibacy rule that denies men their most basic need, or is it easy access to children that draws pedophiles to the church?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100314/ap_ ... urch_abuseMy personal opinion is that celibacy would be difficult to practice.
Monogamy is far simpler.
And a lot less lonely. Being a minister is a hard enough job, imagine having to do it without a partner, a friend, a wife or husband. No wonder these guys are screwy in the head. My parish priest, who is getting rather old and a little bit, um, too honest sometimes, was just lamenting the crippling loneliness of the priesthood. Simple things like eating dinner alone more often than not for fifty years are really getting to him.
And I’m a Catholic, so I’m not bashing.
Is it not true that the whole celibacy thing came from the Church not wanting the priest to marry and therefore have an heir to leave their inheritance too. I read that many years ago, families with great wealth found it an honor to have a son in the priest hood and this was a way for the church to receive their properties.
I heard before that they Priests always made copies of the rules from a copy. When a new Priest asked about seeing the original copy the Main Priest said he would go to the archieves to check on it. After hours of not seeing him the priests keep hearing the loud crying. So they all went down to check on the noise. When they got there the main Priest was crying out that the word is celebrate not celibate.
