Wasn’t Tom Skinner on that championship Middleport team in 1957?

I don’t believe he was. The names that come to mind for me are Jamie Bowles, Dave Hindy, Harlan Whitlatch, Bobby Nelson, Junior Kennedy, Ed McComas. I’ve got some memorabilia (newspaper clippings, etc.) that my dad had before he passed away that has names and pictures of the team on it but I can’t locate it right now. I’ll see if I can find it and post all the names.
Thanks. Dr. Skinner has been following GAHS athletic teams the past 10 or12 years since his son was a former Blue Devils a few years ago. He and Bob Hennesy have talked about that 1957 MHS team. I know the year I got drafted (1956) the Yellow Jackets did not field a baseball team, then went 19-0 in 1957,
Fanosports…
Just talked to Bob Hennesy at a Lions
Club board of directors meeting. You are right. Tom Skinner was not on that 1957 team.
All these years I thought he was. Sorry about that.

Yep, I wasn't even born until 1957 but I've read a lot of history of bend area teams throughout the years. Middleport and Pomeroy held their own and did well in all sports through the first 3 decades of the SEOAL and won many championships but I think numbers and the economy finally made them succumb to the consolidation of the 1960's. It's a shame but life goes on and we move to a new chapter and new generations. Everyone always has their memories. If you and a cohort are who I think you are (H.W. ?), I used to read the Tribune/Sentinel and the Athens Messenger faithfully every sunday to check out the stories from you and Sportfolio (T.M. ?) in the sports sections while I was growing up. There used to be a lot more information, stats, pictures etc. IMO. There again, the print media is slowly drying up, especially in the small towns and is being replaced by this thing we call the internet and other electronic media. I appreciate all you and your brethren have done for the newspaper industry over the years.
Thanks. Times are changing.Been out of the business nearly 12 years. They’ve had two or three editors, four publishers and three or four new owners since I and the late Bob (Tubby) Wingett retired.

Tubby was quite a guy. I don’t think he ever met a man he didn’t know and he would speak to them even if he wasn’t sure.
