Heard rumbling about a month ago Kalb was leaving. Was made official last night, posted today. I commend him for turning the program around but I think change was needed. Thoughts?
He did a good job but the last couple years have been hard to watch. Even with playoff appearances the personal fouls were off the chart. I wish him well on whatever he does next
Who are some candidates?? I liked Kalb but I want to see someone hold the guys accountable for really dumb personal fouls. We need discipline!
This has been the rumor since the week after the season ended. I appreciate Kalb for the years he put in. The program was abysmal for years. He got them back into the playoffs, got them a playoff win, got them a home playoff game. He’s a solid coach and guy. I do however think he lost control of the locker room the last few seasons. This past season ended on a very sour note for sure. I’m not sure who replaces him but I hope it’s someone who can instill some discipline in the boys. Maybe new coach will bring some new blood out. Numbers have been on the decline but enrollment has went up. Week 1 not having an opponent just got a lot more interesting. Thanks coach Kalb, wish you the best in your future endeavors.
It was rumored since the beginning of the season… everyone knew a board member was leaving and he was taking their place… he’s done nothing but a huge disservice to every player he’s coached… he’s just a flat out terrible coach, there’s no other way to put it. He’s a douche bag that treated his other coaches like trash, and thought he knew everything… but if you watch the games, it’s perfectly clear he knows nothing about the game… look at it slightly objectively… portsmouth has had one of the worst offensive lines in the entire area the last 3-4 years… when you’re entire coaching staff has only ever played line… you should damn well have the best line in the area…
I agree, I think they have lacked basic fundamentals recently. Blocking, tackling, locating the football, taking band angles and so on. Play calling not been my favorite either and Discipline. They had no repercussions when doing something wrong, and it started at the top. I do think he had some solid years as coach. But I think a change was the correct move for sure.

Don’t think it would make sense for him to give up the AD position at Shawnee to be the head football coach at Portsmouth personally.

I hope it’s not someone already on the staff, someone from another state (NC Jason Sparks) or someone just because they played for Portsmouth/have the last name. Give me someone qualified, yet young and ready to bring new life to the program.
Get someone from NEO if you really want to win and compete at the state level.
Portsmouth looks slow in film
Every team in that area looks slow compared to the NEO teams. It’s just a different breed of football son. My advice: stay south of I-70. You will get embarrassed if you venture too far north. Just ask Wheelersburg.
Portsmouth has a lot of talent in the school. A lot of positives there. Great opportunity for someone.
100% agree they have had low numbers the past few years because guys don’t like Kalb a new coach could come in and get upwards of 60 kids Portsmouth’s been fielding 40-45 since 2018
