8th grader, Jacob Hamilton, gave up only 4 hits of scoreless baseball in 5 2/3 innings in the State Quarterfinals.

Hamilton baffled the Musketeers with two simple pitches, a fastball and a changeup.

But there was nothing simple about hitting the sub-80-mph offerings solidly, as he struck out five and repeatedly worked out of three-ball counts in 5 2/3 innings.

“The kid is amazing,” said Pikeville coach Steve Priode. “He’s done it for us all year.”

Logan couldn’t exactly put a finger on why the first-year varsity pitcher was so effective.

“He just kept busting the outside. It wasn’t nothing hard or anything but it just kind of sneaked up on us or something,” he said. “We were late on our swings.”[/quote:s83vs8pr]

Left handed pitchers without good speed on their fastball has always been a nightmare for this great group of seniors going back to their Little League All Star days. I understand that several of the players will continue baseball in college. Super group of seniors.
