GAHS drops Portsmouth, 17-1

Visiting Gallipolis Gallia Academy High School exploded for 17 runs in five innings Friday to post a 17-1 Southeastern Ohio Athletic League mercy-run victory over the Portsmouth Trojans.

Junior hurler John Faro went the distance for the Blue Devils. Faro fanned six, walked one and allowed one run on three hits. GAHS made one error.

The Blue Devils scored 17 runs on 16 hits off two Trojan pitchers, Collins, the loser and Schackart. PHS made three errors. The Trojan hurlers fanned one and walked three Gallians.

GAHS plated six runs in the first inning, two in the second, six more in the fourth and three more in the top of the fifth. PHS scored its lone run in the first inning.

Top hitters for Gallipolis were Ty Warnimont, Faro and Zack Thomas, all with three safeties each. Thomas had four RBIs and Warnimont three. Gus Graham had two RBIs. All 14 Blue Devils saw action in Friday’s win. Thomas had a double while Faro and Bailey each had triples.

Albrecht, Lisath, and Grashel had Portsmouth’s three hits.

Gallipolis improved to 8-3 overall and 4-0 inside the SEOAL. Portsmouth dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-4 inside league play.

Gallipolis is scheduled to play a twinbill at Lucasville Valley Saturday, starting at 12 noon. The Blue Devils will host Chillicothe on Monday in a 5 p.m., in a league game and play a non-league game at River Valley on Tuesday. Wednesday, GAHS will host Warren Local as second half league play gets underway at 5 p.m.

Portsmouth plays at Logan Monday and will host South Webster in a non-league outing on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Trojans travel to Jackson for a second half SEOAL battle.
