This one is actually tough. I don’t see it being a bigger margin than two scores.
We know that Alex has some great players, and solid coaching. We also know there’s not a whole lot of depth and that Bradford (not unlike BU’s first week opponent, West Muskingum) is… not good.
Berne Union has long been the Region 27 school that I felt could go from “average/mediocre” to “good” in the shortest amount of time. And I think that’s exactly what’s happening. Their coach is one of the better ones in Fairfield County and R27— he took BU to the playoffs in his first year. Now some will say he had a good amount of senior talent, and that’s true, but he’s one of a kind at developing good athletes quick. BU has good lines both ways and a good D-coordinator. I’ll take Berne in an “upset” special, 24-19.
Nobody is talking about Alexander because they are just kind of hard to get any information on.
And their first game was damn near in Indiana.
But, they have most of their players back from a team that went (4-6) last year, including a win over Vinton County.
Don’t be shocked if the Spartans are (3-0) heading into the week 4 showdown at Athens.
This, 100% . I think Alex takes this game by a few scores, it will surprise some but won’t surprise the ones who know the type of athletes Alex has, plus a very good coaching gameplan.
They could very well win this game but It’s a D7 opponent. D7 Bradford HS whom they beat last week has only been fielding a football team going on their 5th year and have a record of 7-34 in that time. South Point has lost 11 in a row and are 6-45 the last 4+ seasons. No one will be shocked if they start out 3-0 but it won’t be close against Athens in week 4 so we need not kid ourselves.
Alex wasn’t supposed to beat Athens in 2015 either, and we all know how that turned out. That’s why they play the game. BTW, Athens just might be 0-3 by then.

Bradford didn’t have a season in 2014 but they’ve had a team for atleast 2 decades now, could be longer. Information going back to 2000 shows they’ve definitely had a team. I look for Alex to come out fired up and ready to continue playing good ball. A lot of good athletes on that team.
I just went back to 2014 on Bradford’s record, my apologies on that but they only have 16 players on the team this year. As posted by “traf1” above Athens could conceivably be 0-3 and Alex 3-0 in wk 4 when they meet but non-conference SOS isn’t even close . We’ll wait and see what happens.
Athens has always had a good team… till this year, and it’s gonna show. An Athens team that joins the TVC to play D7 schools is gonna end up losing to some of those D7 schools
