CINCINNATI - A Cincinnati Catholic high school assistant principal reports he is poised to lose his job after expressing his support for gay marriage.
On his personal web page, Purcell Marian High School assistant principal Michael Moroski stated he believed “gay people SHOULD be allowed to marry.â€
“It really is very much a ‘because of my faith situation’ not in spite of it,†Moroski said of his beliefs in a phone interview Saturday.
His post prompted a response on Feb. 4 by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati that he either remove the post and sign a form recanting his belief or resign, Moroski said both in his blog and through a media release.
Moroski wrote he decided to do neither, which led to his administrative leave with pending termination.
“If I take that post down I would not be able to look at the thousands of former students and families with whom I have worked for twelve years in the eye,†Moroski wrote on his site.
Moroski has worked for Purcell Marian since 2001, starting out as the dean of student life, according to his website.
Moroski also has political aspirations. At his website he states that he plans to run for Cincinnati City Council in 2017.
The Archdiocese communication director Dan Andriacco stated that since the situation at the school was a personnel matter neither he nor the Diocese could comment on it.
“I’d like to be able to continue to be able to work with my students,†Moroski said.
