OVC baseball player of the year voting

Post by Portsmouthguy95 »

I guess I first gotta ask where is the integrity in coaches anymore. Voting for player of the year was yesterday and all Lawerence county teams stuck together and voted for the hunt kid from Fairland ( good player ) but he wasn’t the best player in the league or on the best team in the league. The last 3x there was a vote for player of the year in this league they have gotten it wrong 2 outta 3 in my opinion ( football this past year should have went to the terry kid from ironton-by far the best player in the league but ended up with the ( hunt) kid winning it and I think basketball got it right and now baseball by far this award should have went to any 3 of the kids from Portsmouth and in my opinion brooks should have won it and his stats stand out like an eye sore and in fact he is still in the top 7 in 3 categories in the state ( not diminishing hunt at all) but between brooks and Williams and j Roth it should have went to the best player in the league and not a senior. Coaches these players work year around on there game only to have you guys take it away from them cause your feelings are hurt or you do t like him or you don’t like the school they attend we can be better ( just vote for the best player) congratulations to the Trojans on there 1st OVC championship in boys sports and the 1st league title In 31 years ( that alone should tell you they have some talent)

I wasn’t there I watched the video but apparently there was a Play at the plate the young man didn’t slide and there legs got tangled up and the umpire felt it was malicious intent so he has served 1 game and he has another too go. I know the kid and he is a super kid

OVC this is precisely the response I didn’t want nor do I care about putting a kid down cause he mad a bad decision or the umpire made one, either way I was merely giving my opinion about the OVC voting and the reasons I believe the voting happens the way it does and boom someone wants to talk about a super young man that just so happens to go to Portsmouth and this is why the Trojan kids will (in my opinion)never get a fair shake

I've only seen a couple baseball games so I can't post on who should be MVP.

But I always thought in the OVC you had to win the league for a player to win the MVP of the league?

At least that's what was said a couple years ago on the basketball thread.

Congratulations to the trojans on a good season and winning the OVC.

Good luck in post season

Shaun Terry was OVC Player Of The Year. He and Fairland’s QB shared it

The Hunt kid struck out 12 Portsmouth batters in one of Portsmouth’s few losses.

I'm starting to see where some people are coming from now that the season is over .

JT Williams is the only OVC player on first team all state , the Trojans won the OVC outright ,why would he not be good enough for the "league' title?

Not only that but the Brooks kids number is better then both , by a lot!

Like posted above,I understood the OVC had a rule you had to be league champs to be given this award ,at least that's what was said a few years back when Kyrie Allison played for Portsmouth.

All good points, biggdowgg, and I do think Portsmouth was not treated fairly in the OVC individual awards.

TrojanD and biggdawgg, If my memory serves me right this goes back 40-45 years that OVC teams all voted against the Portsmouth basketball teams and players. Now my exact facts might have dimmed but 1980-1985-or 1986 Portsmouth basketball was in the sectional tournament up in Ironton and most teams in that sectional was from Lawrence County or OVC. Portsmouth had outstanding records and players during that time frame( played some of toughest teams in State and tri state but Portsmouth never voted No 1 seed up there but in the end Portsmouth ran all over those teams when they played them and I think a few had undefeated records at that. Cant remember the head Coach for Portsmouth but one of the best in state and players by far was heads and shoulders above them. So history shows that Portsmouth Basketball dominated all those teams up in Lawrence County but never was seeded with that respect, so Im not suprised that after 40-45 years things hasnt changed. But in the end Congrats to the Trojans for great year. Making all state by state Coachs says alot by what happened. Good Luck next year!

Good to see Aaron Duncan get OVC Coach of the Year, which was well deserved. Also congratulations to DeAndre Berry, Trevon Brooks, and JT Williams for making 1st team all-OVC. The OVC POY should be one of those Portsmouth players. PHS won the conference outright, and the POY should follow that accomplishment.

The COY automatically is given to the OVC champion coach. If there’s a 4 way tie for the title there’s 4 COYs.

The POY is voted on and goes to the student-athlete who receives the most votes. The best player DOESN’T always play on the league champion. Congratulations to all the fine players who received votes.

This year the BEST player DID play on the league champion, he was just fleeced out of the award. That’s okay, he’s back next year, maybe he can get a fair shake at it then

I have no allegiances, just stating the procedures. Good luck to all the Trojan contingency in supporting their player next year.
