Athens 39 Wellston 14
Athens 39 Wellston 14
Opinions? Didn’t make it to the game last week but heard we failed to do anything outside of dives up the middle when down 11 in the 4th. I don’t see Wellston keeping up with the pace Athens plays at. As bad as I hate to say it I take the dogs by 2-3 TDs. Wellston will have a tough time the next few weeks to close out the season, they just aren’t built to score a lot of points.

Re: Week 8: Wellston (3-4,2-1) @ Athens (6-1,3-0)
Wellston can move the ball and eat clock. If they finish drives and don't turn it over they can keep it closer than most think. They have a pretty good oline.
I think the Dogs win it but I don't expect a blowout.

Wellston may be able to hang around for awhile, but I think the Bulldogs will be to much in the second half for the Rockets.

In the old days before everything was politically correct the sports section in the Sunday Athens messenger would read something like: " Bulldogs rout Rockets" .

Life must suck to be consumed with so much animosity & hate. Why do you care so much what Athens is doing? Enjoy your life, cheer on your team, good grief.

It’s one thing to play a smaller local rival in non conference but to play schools 2-3 divisions smaller week after week and then thump your chest about it is another thingOrange and Brown wrote: ↑Sun Oct 07, 2018 10:04 pmSays the guy who's team has used Wellston as a whipping post for years......

I don't care where you post.
It just seems every other comment is a jab at Athens. Everyone knows what you think about Athens playing smaller schools, you've said it like 1568754 times.
Like I said, don't worry about what we do. Athens has been to the playoffs more times since 2011 than Jackson, so the AD most know what he's doing.

I can’t see Wellston keeping it within reach for more than a half, may not at all. I see a 29-6 type halftime score and a 42-19 final

Well as long as Maxpreps is correct they did have 2008 messed up a bit, but Athens is 48-10 in TVC ohio play that is including this years 3-0 mark. 2008 they had a down year they only went 4-6 overall but went 3-3 in league play. 4 years where they were undefeated, not including this year yet, and 3 other years where they were 5-1 in league play. I'm a numbers guy and that speaks for itself, can't be argued nor denied, just thought maybe some people needed to see those numbers put into perspective. Wellston traveling to Athens just isn't quite there as a team yet and I think you'll see Athens win this one by 3-4 scores, trying to be conservative.Poo Bear wrote: ↑Sun Oct 07, 2018 10:22 pmWell Bulldog , your a good respected poster. Wellston has played well against Athens the last three years. Probably 35-14 Athens win

Athens won by a point last year and Wellston took it to the wire. We had a great drive to end the first half via passing game against NY but not so much second half. If we hit some passes it will be a thriller.

let Wellston have momentum and confidence in this game and they are very capable of causing all sorts of problems for the heavily favored bulldogs....

Interesting numbers GreyGoose. Would love to see Athens last 10 years in the SEOAL before they dropped down a few divisions to play in the much smaller TVC. Did they win any league titles? Any playoffs? Just Curious.

Athens has 5 total trips to the playoffs with 4 being the "Burrow" years and the only other year they ever made the postseason was 1990 when Bubba Lichtenburg was the Qb and they were 7-3 in regular season and were beaten 42-0 by DeSales in rd #1. If both their father's had not moved to OU to become coaches there would be 0 playoff appearances all-time for the Dogs.

During the 90s when Athens was still in the league they lost their last eight games playing Logan. The average score for those eight games was 44.7 to 11.4.
