Sluggerfest report for the Wild thangs

Post by ManitouDan »

We played in the A division this year (champs of B division last year) , so we were moving up in the competetion level.

We were in a 4 team pool with the Cinci Doom 95 (#1 or 2 ranked team in ohio) Cinci Static ( they had already won 2 tournies) and the Louisville Lady Sluggers.

Some of the other teams in the 10 team A division were the Louisville Stunners, OFC Heat Blast, Woodburn Extreme (fort Wayne ind. area) Northern Ky bandits, Riptides.

We finished 1-1 in friday pool play, Got by the Static in a nicely played 1-0 game. good tight softball . Kayla Koch threw the sutout. Due to rain we played 1 hour time limit.

Set up a game with the Doom 95'. They got on us early , we seem to be prone to early inning miscues and then we battle back . There # 1 pitcher is a very good girl, but we managed several nice hits and gained some late inning confidence by cutting a 7-1 lead to a 7-4 game before the 1 hour time limit expired.

On sat we played our best ball of the year, coasted to a easy 6-1 or 5-0 or something like that win over OFC heat blast. Kayla was strong in the circle again . D was strong , hitting was good.
Set up what we thought would be a rematch Vs the Doom but the sluggers shocked the doom by beating them 4-3 on sat , this was after doom beat them 9-0 on friday. (on sunday the doom beat them 15-1)

so in the winners bracket semi's we got a break getting the sluggers. Beat them 10-2 (i think) as Taryn Alvelo threw her best game in several weeks. Lots of beautiful change ups ! The O rolled bigtime .

Set up a winners bracket final VS L. Stunners . They were pretty tough , last weekend they traveled to Oklahoma City to play in the prestigious HOF tourney which draws the best teams from the west. Stunners went 1-3 out there vs teams from Ariz/texas/cali/georgia and Alabama. Don't know why but team seemed flat , just did'nt have the spark as we did on saturday. Fell 8-0 in a game where we just did'nt play well at all.

That put us up against the doom 95 again. They marched thru the losers bracket . Again we just seemed out of gas, Kayla Koch pitched well, allowed a couple unearned runs but the O just could not get going , even though the doom saved their ace for the stunners. Home ump having a huge corner did'nt help much. They got us 4-0.

So 3rd place finish among 10 teams . We were pretty good on friday , really good on sat, but just did'nt compete well on sunday. 2 weeks off before NSA state tourney in cinci. Keep working hard thangs !

The doom 95 came back out of the losers bracket and hammered the stunners twice 8-2 and 9-1. They won 5 games on sunday ! thats wanting it really really bad .

Scioto Storm went 1-1 in their 1st 2 games but I lost track of them , we were at different fields.

Scioto Storm 14u went 3-3
Best ball we have played this year. Lost the 3 games by a total of only 4 runs combined. Most evenly matched tournament we have ever played. Miranda Pauley was just awesome, everything was working. Pitched 37 innings! E.R.A under 1.

glad you had a good weekend Coach ---sometimes people may see 3-3 and think you did'nt do that well , but playing against the level of competetion you guys saw , going 3-3 and playing tight ballgames is a good thing. lost 3 games by a total of 4 ---good showing MD

Congrats to the Storm for playing hard..And realizing just because your a few runs behind doesn't mean you can't come back and win it..They played their hearts out up there and it showed!!! Now let's bring it this weekend, ladies!!!
