Southeast District D2 Tournament Sneak Peek. Five teams enter, one team leaves…

Post by Alan Parsons »

Unlike the D3 District tournament where 3 teams from the area get to go to Regionals only 1 team out of 17 will be called “District Champ” in Division II. Out of the 17 teams playing only 5 have a realistic chance of going to Regionals. Let’s look at my top 4 seeds:

1 Sheridan 18-1, 13-0 Key loss: lone loss was a 4 setter against a good D1 Pick North team
Key wins: Meadowbrook 15-1, John Glenn 12-4, Newark Catholic 11-4

2 Vinton County 14-3, 8-1 Key losses: Adena 16-0 (top team in southeast ohio D3), South Webster 15-1 (top team in southeast ohio D4, and Nelsonville York
Key wins: Huntington, A very good Alexander team 2x, Zane Trace

3 Circleville 16-2, 10-1 Key losses: Alexander, Teays Valley
Key wins; Westfall 12-2, Bern Union 16-1

4 Gallia Academy 15-3, 10-0 Key losses: Alexander, South Webster (see above), and a 14-5 Marietta team.
Key wins: Marietta

Outside looking in….
5. Miami Trace 15-0, 9-0 Key loss: None
Key wins: East Clinton 12-2

All 5 of these teams are good. They all will win their conferences by the end of the year. All the losses they’ve gotten were against quality teams. I kept Miami Trace out of the top 4 seeds even though they are undefeated. The reason being is they play in a really weak FAC and their schedule just isn’t very tough. No other team besides MT in that league has an overall record above .500. They have an interesting out of conference match against Zane Trace next Monday. DII vs. DIII. This will be a super competitive match. It won't affect any seedings as the votes will be cast before this one plays out. But it will give the team that wins it huge momentum going into the Tournament.

This District Semis and Final is going to be fantastic!

Circleville also has two wins over 15-5 Liberty Union.

1. Sheridan
2. Circleville
3. Vinton County
4. Miami Trace
5. Gallipolis

MT gets penalized for a soft schedule. We just don't know enough.

All talented teams. I think Sheridan walks away from this. Well coached with the tough schedule.

Sheridan sweeps Vinton and Circleville sweeps Miami Trace setting the stage for the district championship game.

This ought to be a great match. After seeing both teams Circleville is going to have to have play great defense to win. Sheridan has the best setting and hitters I've seen all year.
