The SVC at the Turn

Post by Xtoxxviii »

The SVC standings at the halfway mark.

League Records:
Zane Trace 7-0
Huntington 5-2
Westfall 5-2
Unioto 4-3
Adena 4-3
Southeastern 2-5
Paint Valley 1-6
Piketon 0-7

What will the second half of SVC play bring?

Does Trace run the SVC table?

How many league loses will the Champs have?

Will Southeastern ,Paint Valley or Piketon have a say in how the top half of the league finishes out?

Will Westfall get healthy enough to challenge for the title?

Will ALL of the Sherman matches go to four or five sets in the second half?

Can Huntington get the elusive win over the Adena Warriors?

Will The Warriors start a new winning streak in the second half

How many Sectional volleyball Titles will the SVC win this year?
District?
Regional?
State??????

Will boo33vb dislocate a shoulder from patting themselves on the back for picking ZT?

Will the SVC Sports Zone put the jinks on the lady Pioneers this fall like they did to Unioto and Adena this past spring?

The Frenchtowne Phenom

XO, don't be hatin, i'm just having some fun with the SVC this year. I am not affiliated with ZT, just following the program that Coach Merriman has turned around in a very short time. Besides i already dislocated one shoulder years ago and cant reach my back now :) I will buy you a Budweiser product at the Frenchtown Country Club so i can get you away from that Dos Yuckies import and get you straightned out! I do enjoy your posts and keep em coming.

It's all good boo33vb, gotta give ya props for going out on the limb and taking the Pioneers this season. I'm a huge fan of the Anheuser-Busch corporation, dos yuckies not so much.
Main Man I don't know if Ross county is big enough for both of our egos let alone in the same establishment but I'm willing to give it a SHOT!

Unioto in three tonight over Southeastern. One of the better nights for the Shermans.

Also hearing reports Adena over Westfall  in three straight sets, watch out SVC it appears the Great Spirit of the Warrior Nation has awoken.

ZT 8-1

Westfall 6-3
Adena 6-3
Huntington 6-3
Unioto 6-3

Southeastern 3-6
Paint Valley 1-8
Piketon 0-9

Thursday's match-ups

Adena @ Paint Valley
Piketon @ Huntington
Southeastern @ Westfall
Unioto @ Zane Trace

Adena, Westfall, and Huntington should hold serve and move to 7-3 on the SVC Season.
The match-up of the day will be Unioto @ Zane Trace.

The Sherman's need a win to stay in the 2nd place SVC log jam
While a Victory for the Pioneers would go
along ways towards the undisputed SVC title.

You are so right Xtoxxviii , ZT controls their own destiny if they keep winning. However, if they happen to stumble in a match down the stretch we could see one of the four 2nd place teams becoming co-champs with ZT. But that 2nd team will have to win out.

Huntington: After they beat Piketon on Thursday (just a guess), the only break in their SVC schedule is Southeastern. With road games against Unioto and Zane Trace not to forget about Westfall at home it will be tough to run the table.

Unioto: The youngsters will be growing up fast with a meat grinder of a schedule left. Not only do they have Zane Trace, Huntington, Westfall, and Adena left in league play, but in non league action they will be going against Wash CH, Wheelersburg, Waverly, and Chillicothe – teams all with winning records and all on the road. Whew! Keep your eye out for this team to make some noise in the tournament, ‘cause they’re going to be “tournament ready”.

Westfall: After a huge comeback win on the road, in winning the last 3 sets against ZT, Westfall could ride that momentum all the way to a co-championship. But they will need help from the rest of the league with just Unioto (home) and Huntington (away) standing in the way.

Adena: Another team that plays a monster non league schedule (Lima Central Catholic, Hopewell Loudon, Worthington Kilbourne (D1), Grove City (D1), Washington CH, Shekinah Christian) which will get them more than ready to win the rest of their SVC games. Adena has the easiest schedule of the four as they will feast on Paint Valley, Piketon, and Southeastern before a huge game against the Shermans in Frenchtown. If they can pull that one out and ZT loses to either Unioto or Huntington in the next 2 weeks, look out for one of the best finishes in the SVC in a long time on Oct 11th as Adena will host ZT in Frankfort….

VonHagen, i love your user name. We must get together for a brew to talk some volleyball history and trivia. I gotta test you first and ask who was VonHagen's partner for most of his victories? Ron VonHagen know as the "bod" for his tarzan-like muscles ruled the beach circuit in the 60"s and was many times paid with a case of beer for winning a tournament. :)

RonVon:
The Sherman's schedule is like having a big white elephant sitting in your living room. You know it's there, you can't miss it, but there is nothing you can do about it......The Sherman's have been dealing with it however......

We've been taking this season one match at a time, remember this is the squad that took Eastern Beaver to 23-25 but also dropped a set to the In league winless Red Streaks of Piketon. Oh the trials and tribulations of a greenhorn loaded roster.

At the start of the season many within Camp Sherman was expecting around a 500 or sub season. Now the talk has turned to the Tanks competing with the best the SVC has to offer. X-pectations have grown in Frenchtowne for sure.

Boo33:
The only Sand volleyball players I know of,
besides myself, cousin D and his 6'4 bald brother-n-law Mongo
(we dominate on the sands of paint creek at family reunions, scattering of ashes and baptisms). Sorry I regress ....
Like I was saying the only sand volleyball players I know of is Maverick, Goose and Ice Man. Is that worth a Natural Light?

X, thats too funny on the sands of Paint Creek. I played a few beach games back in the day and came away looking like a korndawg a few times. I could fill you in on some beach volleyball someday as it was my passion for many years and attended the AVP tours whenever they came near us. My favorite play was a defensive gem by the name of Singin Smith and his partner was a beast named Randy Stoklos. They ruled through the late 80's and early 90's till Karch Kiraly decided to go full time to the beach and the rest is in the books! The Shermans definitly have surprised the league and are to be taken as a player in the top 4 and a big match lies on the outcome tomorrow. VonHagen has done his homework and this is the most fun the SVC has been in a while. No disrespect to Adena, just like the parity better. Paint Valley and Piketon have shown some guts and kudos to those 2 new coaches.

Boo Dadddy...of course you want me to tell you that was Ron Lang. 22 tournament victories together. I'm just an aging beach player past his prime but Ron Von Hagen is probably the 4th best beach player of all time. He was also waaay ahead of his time in the 60's because he was using weights and plyometrics as part of his training. And yeah, we will have a beer (AB product} soon.

Trace in 4 over the Sherman's tonight.

The lady Pioneers look good, I mean real good.
A very balanced and well coached squad.
I was impressed again by Spetenagel, of course Carl and Strausbaugh had a strong nights respectively and the Ward girl played an awesome defensive front row tonight for ZT.

Unioto struggled the first two sets but came back to Make a respectable showing in the final two stanzas of the night.

Did ya make it out to Kinnikinick tonight Main Man?

X,
Actually I tuned in to the radio station after a trip to the Hollywood casino. Couldn't afford to pay to get into the game after that trip. Haha. ZT is back on track and Unioto is getting ready for the tourney.

Zane Trace beats Huntington in 4...Although it won't be officially clinched if the Pioneers win you might as well put it up on the banner. A talented team that definitely deserves to be champs. Best team in the SVC no question. Important match for Zane Trace!

Southeastern has a lot of talent but Adena beats the Panthers in 3. Adena is getting better every match they play...

Paint Valley vs. Piketon: I haven't seen either team play, PV beat them at home. hmmmm I'm going with Jacquie's squad for her first SVC road win!

Unioto wins this one in 5 turning the tables on the Mustangs. The young pups are off the porch and running with the big dogs now!

Adena's going to get a share, aren't they?

Obviously 2 really tough matches left against teams who beat them the 1st time around, but it just seems like things are falling into place for them. I'm not an Adena fan by any means, but I'm rooting for Coach Smith and the girls who stuck with it to get a share.

I'm not Nostradamus and I won't be making odds in Vegas (based on a 1-4 record on my predictions) but man the SVC sure got interesting!
