Winning a game 20-0 should be a fireable offense for the head coach of the winning team. I’m sure that’s exactly what OHSAA and the refs had in mind when talking about sportsmanship prior to kickoff.

This is brought up every year. Unless there is a set goal limit to call the game, you are gonna have these types of games. I wasn't there, but i hope that the subs were in the game and they did things to make scoring harder, two reverses before a shot, every goal has to be off a header, whatever. I've asked before on this topic, what is worse? Getting scored on a bunch or the better team just playing "keep away" and making the other team chase the ball til time runs out? In my experience, the "keep away" tends to make kids more mad and then tempers start flaring and things get out of hand. What is the answer? game over after a team is up 10? Maybe piketon needs to look at their program and see how they can improve it. Do they have a youth program or do piketon kids just play in the pike county Y league?

I know Piketon does have a Jr. High team.

Indiana has a mercy rule when up 10 in the 2nd half. Ohio needs to adopt it.

I think that is reasonable.

Been happening for years, but until OHSAA adopts a mercy rule, nobody cares. Match should be over as soon as there a 10-goal lead. If teams want full games, then sub starters out early and work on your possession game.*

I don't know if South Webster is the most unlucky team alive against burg? Or if the Pirates are the luckiest team alive against the Jeeps? Maybe both? Either way, the Pirates throttled South Webster yet again and I can't make sense of it. Burg is good and hats off to them, I just don't understand the many faces of this SW team.

Unioto does have an inexperienced 1st year coach. You always have to take that into consideration. The respected coaches in the SE District know better, or they should know better. Hopefully this new coach will learn if they don't make a change to rules. 10-0 seems like more than enough for a mercy rule and teams can still pad stats and let their players get theirs with a 10 goal win.

what a shame....I heard the coach was thrown out of the game?...how many of the 20 goals did Hanes/Pettigrew have? I would hope the A.D. called coach in for a meeting the next day.

Unioto …. Every darn year it happens. I got mad respect for Dani so I don’t like saying bad about unioto, and on the girls side fu and unioto have had such a fun rivalry… but these games drive me fn nuts.

Today on Twitter stories rivals posts about a girl from John Glenn who had 11 of her teams 25 goals the last two games. They played philo and Morgan who have a combined record of 1-17. Who the hell is letting someone score that many goals.

I’m convinced these coaches were not around when their programs started and likely got their tails kicked in nearly every game. I was at fu and those games where a team won by 15 and left starters in, left lasting impressions… and also were great lessons for me as a young coach about who we were not going to be. Winning 20-0 is an absolute embarrassment. And some of these schools do it and can’t wait to go post their stats and scores all over the place like they accomplished something. It’s ridiculous.
