All in all, this looks to be a fairly accurate list. Congrats to Nikki on being selected First Team, as well as Alex for being selected to Third Team.

Also, congrats to Butler and Caudill for being selected as Co-POY in D3.

Aside from DI (where apparently there are two teams), not one single POY was the leading scorer in the District/Division. So which selection has you miffed?

enigmaax, not miffed at all, just interested, POY could change, another young lady who is a better shot who's shooting percentage is higher might be considered POY then one who shoots at a lower percentage....not saying that POY's named aren't deserving...just courious as to how well they shoot the ball in comparison to others... and again congrats to the all the ladies honored...and not knowing all the one's named to AP poll list, couldn't assume they (press) made the right or wrong decision....

Congratulations to Cheyanne Singer for being named to the Division IV All-District Third Team. I think she should have been named to the second team, but what do I know about girls basketball. Anyway, great job Cheyanne and the Lady Lancers for a very valiant season and all-round team effort this season. Federal-Hocking girls basketball is still alive!!!!!

Congrats to all and especially the Unioto Lady Shermans on the list. I personally think that Coach Driggs should have received D2 Coach of the Year. Losing who could have been the District POY for the year and still coming out with a 17-5 record.

But, coach Stutzman did replace a D1 player and had another great season after a run to the Final Four last year, so it's also well deserved. Well, you could also mention Jackson and Marietta's coaches among many others in the district. We have some great coaches in our district!

Anxious to see the District Coaches Polls. Some are not out. Those are the ones that are important. I don't hold a very high opinion of our AP writers in Washington County. Marietta Times is in Marietta...

A brief look at last year's POY selections and how they are doing at the next level, listed by name and high school (college). All four selections were seniors last season, and a D-I POY was not selected due to small numbers.

Division IV

Sina King, Waterford (Akron) AND Kayla Cook, South Webster (Cincinnati)

Cook started all 29 games for the 9-20 Bearcats and led them in scoring eight times. Averaged 8.1 points, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 35.6 minutes a night. Also shot 36.4% from field.

King played in all 30 games, with 4 starts, for the 14-16 Zips. Averaged 4.6 points in 3.9 rebounds over 17.4 minutes a night and shot 41.5% from the field.

*Both players shared AP district POY as sophomores in 2008. King was the lone POY in 2009.

Division III

Karissa Adkins, Oak Hill (Shawnee State)
Averaged 0.8 points over 3.4 minutes (13 games) for the 24-9 Bears.

Division II

Jenna Cobb, Miami Trace (Butler University)
Averaged 2.2 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 11.9 minutes for 19-12 Butler. Shot 37.5% from field and played in 30 games, including one start.

* A side note for SE Ohio fans, Dublin Coffman grad Becca Bornhorst — daughter of former Jackson HS basketball coach Tony Bornhorst — is a soph on that same Butler squad. In 23 games, 14 were starts, Becca averaged 4.5 points and 4.7 rebounds.

IMO the AP is better than the coaches. With the way they have votes plus proxy votes is BS. The coaches that are there should have 1 vote each. Not how it works. The AP shows NO favoritism. Maybe only to his or her areas players. They see the game and print the numbers. Some coach from the other side of a district has not seen every girl either. It's tough either way. But usually the numbers don't lie.

Well Keyser_soze78 everybody I have ever talked to thinks that the coaches poll is better than the AP...so, we must be talking to different people. AP poll has not even been mentioned in the banquets I have been to in the past. District allstar games are based on coaches polls and that seems important? Guess this is an open forum for opinions and that is what makes it interesting. Always like to see how awards vary by league and poll. Some players get league honors and nothing on the other polls and others are on the polls and not on the league lists.

To me I think the coaches sometimes feel obligated to give the first awards to their seniors and if they get any more then thats a bonus. Thats not a bad thing unless there are underclassman much more deserving. The AP doesnt seem to do that. Thats just my opinion of watching this work out over the past 20 + years.
