Marietta @ Waterford Mon 1/11
Re: Marietta @ Waterford Mon 1/11
I expect a completely different game this time with the Wildcats able to handle the Tiger defense much better.
Re: Marietta @ Waterford Mon 1/11
I agree with mhs, Waterford is much better prepared for Marietta. Unsure of the outcome, but this will be a good game for sure!

Marietta.. 11 16 31 11 -- 69
Waterford 18 16 16 23 -- 73
Great atmosphere for a game, and a great game! Tigers couldn't handle prosperity after a massive 31 point 3rd quarter, coming back all the way from a 12-2 deficit. Wildcats got out to the good early lead by playing aggressive defense, especially on the perimeter, contesting the ball everywhere. The Tigers took a 58-50 lead and had the ball and were in the one and bonus with 25 sec left in the 3rd quarter, but lost the ball and gave up two to shrink the lead to 8 and the quarter mark. It was still 58-50 and minute and a half into the 4th, then they traded baskets for a 60-52 score. Waterford scored to make it 63-60 and called TO with 2:34 left, then cut it to 63-62 and with 1:39 left and Marietta called TO. 45 seconds later the Wildcats led 67-63 with the key play being a grievous turnover coming right out of the TO that gave Waterford the lead and it was all downhill from there for the Tigers as they didn't score again until Waterford had 72 points.
This game was remarkably similar to the match-up in Waterford of the 2007-08 versions of the same teams, when Waterford got a good lead early and Marietta finally came back and got a good lead late, but couldn't seal the win. In that game, as I remember, the Tigers didn't get the lead until much later like the middle of the 4th qtr, and then it was only by 3-4 points, but it was equally painful to let it slip away.

Great recap MHS! This was an edge-of-your-seat game which was not to be missed!! Great play by both teams, but Waterford looked like the performers we've come to expect! Some fantastic looks and gives by some great team players!! And . . . standing ovation to the Waterford supporters!!! No one packs a gym, no matter the venue, like Waterford fans! Kudos!
