Westfall plays at D1 St Charles (8-0). They gave Olentangy Orange (8-1) their only loss of the season last week. Unioto, at St Charles, at Circleville. 3 tough games in a row. Should be great preparation for the tourney. Hoping we cone out and play hard.

No way would the 4th or 5th (I don't think the 3rd either) best teams in SOC II win the title in SOC I. The difference in the two leagues is not that severe at the top. I personally think that after Valley and Minford the SOC I has the next best 3-4 teams. Eastern has already beat the Oaks at Oak Hill, and played your Indians to a 1 possession game.

There will be several cross division games in the coming weeks to prove one of us wrong. At the moment however, I think pfloyd has the SOC teams pegged about right.

Like I said, it was just my opinion.

Eastern played Valley very tough at home and they are a solid team. I had forgotten they already beat Oak Hill so that is a very solid win.

I have been wrong many times and this could certainly be one of them. All I will say is that if I were putting Wheelersburg, Oak Hill, or I would even say Waverly into the SOC I, I would wager that they would end up winning the league.
thats betting with your heart not head lol

I have no emotional ties to any of those schools. I would be betting with what my eyes have seen.

East appears to possibly be the front runner in the league. I watched them not even compete with St. Joe's who I feel (again my opinion only) would be on par with Valley and Minford. I also think the other teams I mentioned would play with, while maybe not beat St. Joe's.

... Crab's Brother ... I watched Portsmouth East beat Portsmouth Clay on the Tartan home turf ... East has a very good ball club built around the small floor ... Scott IS a factor on the small floor because he can get up & down court - able to influence the game at both ends of the short court ... I was very interested in the outcome of the East vs St Joe contest on the following night for a few reasons 1) would Scott be able to be a factor on the big floor ? 2) how would East perform vs a team who had already beaten Ironton, lost to Chesapeake ( a couple of known commodities to me) ? 3) IF Scott was not a factor on the big floor, what would the coaching staff do - sub in? slow down the game so the East BIG could get up/down court which would allow him to be a bigger factor ? ... an 51-81 East loss ... Does this mean East will struggle on the bigger floor ? we'll keep watching the results of the East away schedule ... East has the personnel to get out and run the floor (outside of the big man in the middle) - if they get out and run Scott becomes a non-factor ... East slows the game down , the bigger floor & slowing the game down takes away a positive that the team has - speed ...I would like to see East use the 6-2 Bruton MORE/even starting on the bigger floors - he has the speeds/jumping ability/can run the floor to give the Tartans that high octane 5 on the court ... taking advantage of the TEAMS overall speed ... going to be interesting to see how East plays the rest of the way ...

... Portsmouth Clay has speed/shooters/length in the middle in Gilliland ... the 2nd matchup on the Panther's home court between East & Clay will say a lot about East and how far they will go in the post season ... scary for East & Clay opponents - only 1 senior between the 2 teams !!! all of these athletes will be back next year !!! bigger/stronger/improved versions of the quality teams they ALREADY are this season ...

Westfall took it on the chin at St Charles. We were without Corey Wyman (23.7ppg). Ankle. They were just too big. Down 39-28 at half. Lost 87-60.

Sounded like a good effort by the Mustangs, just went up against a team with too much size and depth. St. Charles is 9-0 and one of the top Division I teams in the Central District.

Hopefully Corey is back soon.

Lucasville Valley picked up another impressive win tonight. The Trojans were scorching the nets from 3-5 feet behind the 3 pt line and the Indians stuck around and had a late surge to take the W. Very impressed with the Indians 8-0 start, having 4 quality wins already. Congratulations to senior Bryan Rolfe picking up his 3rd 30+ point effort in 4 games & reaching 1000 career points in this one!

Congrats to Rolfe...Great kid and player. Valley vs Portsmouth or Rolfe vs Allison has been going on since 6th grade with Valley winning 95% of the games by less than 5. Always great matchups

Congratulations to Bryan Rolfe for reaching the individual milestone of the 1000 Point Club ... an outstanding player who has been a part of the Indian success on the court since his freshmen season ... having gone from role player to THE MAN for Valley - thank you for allowing those of us in the Cheap Seats to see your growth as a player over the years ... looking forward to seeing Bryan & the Indians at the Beasts of the Southeast on Jan 9th where I can congratulate this young man in person ... well done Bryan Rolfe ...

Olentangy 50
Logan 43 final

... Logan IS getting closer to what Coach K wants at both ends of the court ... the Chiefs had the Olentangy Braves out of the OCC on the ropes by playing OUTSTANDING defense for 2 qtrs and 5 minutes of the 3rd ... the Purple & White frustrated the Gold/Blue & White (yeah I know who has 3 school colors - right) holding the team from Above the Lancaster-Dixon Line to seemingly an entire half of "one & dones" - the Braves with 8 first quarter points and 15 in the second ... while the Chiefs Defense IS where it needs to be - the Logan offense is still in the "learning" phase ... you can see it like night and day - defensively LHS is reacting, moving the feet, beating up the offensive players with their bodies, getting to where the offense wants to get before the offensive player - outstanding !!! then there is the offensive end of the floor - players THINKING where they should be, who should be where, who do I throw to - nothing is 2nd nature .... YET ... it will get there ! ... the kids on offense are playing NOT to make mistakes, thinking about shooting or not shooting ... it only adds up to throwing up bricks whether that's from 18 ft or 3 ft from the basket ... players aren't ready to shoot - yet ... players aren't ready to receive passes ...yet ... players aren't able to put the ball in the hole ... YET ... it's coming !!! Coach Kellough said "after Jan. 1st" ... write it down Logan WILL beat Amanda CC Wednesday ... defense will hold CC to under 40 ... the offense WILL begin to click ... 60+ points ... that will take us to Jan. 2nd vs Watkins Memorial at Home ... Defense & Offense come together to start the new year ...

... Logan showed signs of patience with the ball on offense ... better shot selection through one half as Logan led 24-23 at intermission ... the Chiefs opened the 3rd quarter with a 9-1 run ... had the game in hand at 33-24 with 4 minutes to play in the 3rd ... but as has been the case in the Logan 5 game losing streak ... learning how to play offense with patience, controlling the tempo of the game has been tough to do in crunch time - Olentangy hit a 3 ball after getting a transition bucket ... Logan missed 3 or 4 shots at point blank range ... OHS was finding points in the paint ... from 2:59 in the 3rd Logan up 33-26 OHS finished out the period on a 9-2 run knotting the score at 35-35 end of 3 ... the 4th was STILL close Logan trailing 41-43 at the 4:20 mark of the 4th quarter ... Olentangy went 5/7 from the FT line in the 4th and converted on a Logan miscue to escape Jim's Gym with a 50-43 Olentangy win over the Chiefs ...

... Pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Olentangy ...

Scoring ... Derrick Wyche 12, Carter Kinnaird 10, Seth O'Neal 7, Jason Sieve 5, Austin Luxedor 5, Brandon Mazzeo 4, Sam Hyburg 3, Jacob Walker 2, Christian Mazzeo 2

3 Pointers ... 5/13 ... Carter Kinnaird 2, Jason Sieve 1, Sam Hyburg 1, Austin Luxedor 1

FT's ... 7/16

TO's ... 17

... Olentangy made wholesale substitutions 5 at a time ... played 11 players with 9 denting the scorebook with points ...

... Pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Logan ...

Scoring ... Lane Little 15, Isaiah Smith 12, Bo Myers 8, Kory Henthorne 4, Caiden Landis 2, Cole Baron 2

3 Pointers ... 4/16 ... Lane Little 2, Bo Myers 2

FT's ... 9/11

TOs ... 17

... as I posted the Chief's are playing outstanding ball at the defensive end - no thinking , ALL doing /reacting ... still need to take MORE advantage of those forced TOs - when they get the TO, take it as a "W"! - be MORE patient with the ball, work the ball to get THE SHOT the Chiefs want, one that will put points on the board or add to the opponents foul total ... we aren't there yet - still getting "excited" trying to force the ball resulting in a TO of our own hence tonights 17 TO forced by our D, we gave it back 17 times with half of those TO on Logan's part immediately after forcing an OHS turnover ! ... it's coming along !!! Lane Little is still thinking about what is going on on the floor, listening to Coach Kellough, coaching up the freshmen ... LL will be much more comfortable in January as the freshmen will have learned their roles, everyone will be reacting on what they see the defense doing when LHS is on offense ... Isaiah Smith is visually thinking before driving, before shooting or not shooting ... trust your skills I. Smith !!! ... the Offense is one week away ... the 2 games remaining this week will go a long way in righting the ship ...

Logan is getting closer. They will get a W tomorrow night and the schedule definitely eases up a bit after the new year. Although, not like it's a cakewalk by any means, it will definitely prepare them for the D1 tournament

Crab's Brother I have to agree with you as Waverly knocked off Eastern last night 70-67 in an instant classic......

... a quick thank you to Scott Vermillion & Misty Swaim doing the call from the radio booth at Jim's Gym last night for SAMFM radio of the Logan vs Olentangy - one for doing another great job on the game but also for giving up 10 minutes of air time at the varsity halftime to put pfloyd on the air to talk some hs hoops !!! I wasn't sure what to expect but Scott always does a nice job in keeping things flowing so it was a pretty easy 10 minutes ... talking hoops "ain't" hard for this old man LOL ...

I think it will be the Shermans biggest challenge to date. On the road against a very good team, should show a lot about what the Shermans can expect for the rest of the season, IMO. They haven't guarded against the 3 ball as well the last couple of outings, so that could be a big advantage for the Falcons if they can knock down shots early. Wheeler vs. Woodside should be a fun matchup between the bigs that can both step out and knock down jumpers. I think it will come down to how well FU handles the Unioto pressure that they are able to put on in the 3/4 court. Should be a fun game.

I agree. FU can really shoot it. I say Unioto by 10 but this COULD be closer or an upset because of the 3 ball.

It appears Unioto and Peake stand out above the rest. St Charles and unioto would be a great matchup to watch. Both teams have 3 very good guards and two bigs. St Charles bigs are 6-9 and 6-7 with a 6-7 sub. None are as strong or quick as Uniotos bit they are long.

St Charles shot 61% against us last night and had only 6 turnovers. You wont find 3 more fundamental guards. Nothing fancy but they can all 3 shoot the three, drive, and dish.

Unioto 65
FU. 49

Game was never in doubt. Swackhammer kid is a very nice player and then they have several players that play their role well. You can see why they have been hard to beat. FU didn't play their best but credit to the Shermans, they caused them to not play well. FU will be fine and could be dangerous at end of year.

Unioto still cream of crop, I still say Fairland climbs the ladder quick. Valley, Peake, Minford all really good also, D3 will be one heck of tourney battle.
