... pfloyd has set the itinerary for the weekend hoops action - looks like the Pfloyd Tour will be headed West of Rte 23 to Peebles Friday evening to take in Peebles entertaining Eastern Brown - Lawson/Scot for EB vs Arey/Justice for Peebles ... a great SHAC matchup ... Saturday evening I am looking forward to making the trip to the river and Chesapeake HS for the OVC championship game between Chesapeake and Fairland ... pfloyd has been TRYING to get to Panther Land all season it seems! - cancer treatments got in the way when I planned to make the Beast of the Southeast Tourney, then Mother Nature postponed this one a few weeks ago ... Saturday looks like a go finally LOL ... always great to run into our Chesapeake friends , say hello to Coach Davis and see the Panthers in action ...

Coal Grove beat Rock Hill on friday to finish the regular season at 16-5. Now on to Jackson to face South Point for the 3rd time this year.

Warren by far the best team in SE district. 4 players that can flat play - big, athletic, well coached. Very impressed with them.

Matching Ironton and Warren up would be interesting. I'd have to go with Ironton.

Unioto 49
Westfall 47

Kyle Strange hits a runner from the right wing at the buzzer. In the last 10 seconds, Strange was fouled, missed the front end...then gets a steal and misses the layup, Unioto was fortunate enough for Chase Detillion to get the rebound and call timeout to draw up the game winner.

Unioto finishes the regular season 14-8 and 10-4 in the SVC. Westfall drops to 6-15 and 5-9 in the SVC.

Westfall has a makeup game with Teays Valley tomorrow night. Unioto is off until next Friday against McClain at Southeastern.

Unioto's JV wins and finishes at 21-1 and 14-0 in the SVC. Lots of young talent in Frenchtown!

Warren faced Jackson tonight on Senior night. Nice to see all 5 Seniors get the call to start. Leffingwell, Yabbs, Pennell, Lang and Drayer. Great players and better young men. Very proud of all of you. After the 68 to 22 victory the Warriors are now 20-1 with one more regular season game tomorrow against Portsmouth. Lang had a nice double double tonight, Leffingwell protected the paint and Pennell found his shot from behind the arc just in time for the tournament. Hall, Patton and French all had solid games with limited minutes and Yabs ran the show as usual. Congrats to the Warriors and Go Big Blue. Play hard tomorrow but stay healthy.

Vinton County beats Wellston 70-57 to guarantee 1st place in the TVC Ohio. The Vikes continue to rotate 10+ players a night in the game. Alot of quality playing time for some Freshman heading into the one and done season!! Makeup with NY on Monday and this season is complete!! Southeastern game will not be made up since it is not a league game.

Gallipolis 48
Chillicothe 46

First boys varsity basketball win over Chillicothe in schools' history and it came 85 years from when the schools first met in the 1928-29 post-season tournament. Cavs had won 22 straight games from GAHS. It was the Cavs last game as an SEOAL member and it was Gallia's only win over CHS since they joined the league.

PS--It should be pointed that Zack Johnson, the Cavs top player and scorer, was sick and did not dress. Cavs had early 9-2 lead, but fell back 13 points (32-19) early in second period and trailed 10 points with 5 minutes left to play and pulled within two, 48-46 with 14 seconds left and had a chance to tie or win the game with a last-second shot, but missed and the streak was over.

Portsmouth 69
Logan 66 final

Deja vu all over again! Trojandave's PHS Trojans beat my Chieftains tonight at Jim Myers Gymnasium by the same score as Coach Collin's boyz beat my Purple at Portsmouth earlier in the season 69-66 ... tonight's 69-66 Trojan "W" went OT to get it done ... a very entertaining game , we saw both teams combine for 17 threes on the night (PHS 8/LHS 9) ... Portsmouth's outstanding freshman PG Ky're Allison put up a 26 pt night backed up by senior Jayllen Carter's 25 pts ... my Purple placed 4 of the 5 senior starters in double digit scoring on the night (Bird McNeal 24, Tristan Myers 14, Josh Mutzner 12, Josh Vermillion 10) ... the Senior Night game finished regulation at double nickels for each side 55-55 as Bird McNeal drained a trey from the top of the key to give Logan a 55-52 lead with under a minute to play ... Trojan super freshman Ky're Allison calmly matched the deep ball by McNeal with a deep three ball of his own to knot the game at 55 a piece BOTH teams had shots on goal in the last 15 secs, with Portsmouth putting up 3 near miss put backs before time ran out in regulation Logan 55 Portsmouth 55 after 4 quarters ... Overtime had an ominous start for Logan as the Trojans' Jayllen Carter took the tip in for a one hand dunk to give PHS the lead for good 57-55 ... the Trojans made just enough foul shots in OT to keep Logan in the rearview mirror (8/15 FTs in OT) ... the closest Logan would get after the Carter dunk was with :25 on the clock a McNeal three (his 8th on the night) pulled LHS to within 2 pts 65-67 ... a Levi Porter put back in the paint finished the Trojan scoring at 69 and a lone FT by Pat Klinger gave Portsmouth the 3 point margin of victory ... Portsmouth 69 Logan 66 OT final ...

... Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Logan ...

Scoring : Bird McNeal 24, Tristan Myers 14, Josh Mutzner 12, Josh Vermillion 10, Joey Cottrill 5, Pat Klinger 1

3 Pointers : 9/20 ... McNeal 8, Cottrill 1

FT's : 13/21

TO's : 21

... Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Portsmouth ...

Scoring : Ky're Allison 26, Jayllen Carter 25, Isiaha Lisath 10, Levi Porter 4, Alex Dickerson 2, Sky Oliver 2

3 Pointers : 8/18 ... Allison 3, Carter 3, Lisath 2

FT's : 13/28

TO's : only 10

... I was impressed with the Portsmouth youngsters that Coach Collins will have coming back next year - Allison (freshman), Oliver (soph), Lisath (jr), Dickerson (soph), Gibson (soph) ... the Trojans are a BIG away from being a very , very good team for the 2013-14 season ... Ky're Allison has the quickness of Ironton's Zac Carter but with size (6-1) to go with the quicks ... he knocks down the 3 ball and is even more dangerous either getting into the paint/to the rim off the dribble or posting up in the paint & taking it to the rim - very nice player ... looking forward to seeing Allison's development in the next 3 years - he will be special ... Tonight's game was won in the TO department - Portsmouth played zone for MOST of the game allowing McNeal for Logan to spot up for the three ball - 8 treys on the night - Coach Collins turned up the heat on the ball pressure with about 2 minutes to go in the 3rd ( Logan had built a 7 points lead at that point) ... Allison took away the open looks for McNeal as he chased for the entire 4th quarter & OT ... when I talked to trojandave and Coach Collins before the varsity game the weaknesses for PHS seemed to be TOs and poor FT shooting ... the Trojans won the TO game within THE GAME - PHS 10 TOs to Logans 21 for the game ... PHS FT shooting ,although not great, was enough to hold off the Chiefs in the OT when Logan was forced to foul to stop the clock and hope for PHS misses (PHS 8/15 FTs in OT) ...

... as I mentioned got to meet up with trojandave and chat with Portsmouth coach Coach Collins ... with the youngsters on the team this year Coach Collins Trojans have done a nice job in getting their .500 record - when you look at their schedule where PHS has played some of the best teams in the state - Ironton x2, Warren x2 (tonight being #2 at Warren), Brookhaven, Piketon ... the ups and downs of a young team matched with some these experience opponents - lets just say there have been many teachable moments for the Trojans ...all indications I saw in the game vs Logan suggest that the young Trojans are learning to play within the context of Coach Collin coaching - a team to watch next season ...

69-66 ... sounded like a close game ... but we didn't get a report on how many times TROJAN DAVE threw the hat?

3?
5?

and did he make it through the contest without getting a "T" - or at least a long stare from an official working the game?

:)

Tonight at the Warrior Collesium, the aforementioned Trojans will take on the 20-1 Warren Warriors for the second time this year. Warren looking for the 21st win of the season and PHS looking to get to a .500 record for the regular season. Warren coming off of a route last night against Jackson hopefully does not take the Trojans to lightly and forget to show up and play. With seeding already decided this game neither helps nor hurts either team. These are the types of games where kids can lose focus and get injured. Good luck to my Warriors tonight and most of all stay healthy. Go Big Blue!!!

... 93dog ..."the HAT" (not to be confused with the Hatton Gymnasium in Chillicothe) - the famous trojandave hat (which has seen more floors than Mr. Clean) was NOT to be seen last night at the Purple Palace ! ... trojandave had "in your face seating" (right in the front row floor level!) daring the Logan police/court security to say or do something! LOL ... the game was soooooo close with lead changes throughout, td's demeanor was nothing but "choir boy like" LOL ... trojandave is a long distance runner - so I'm thinking he probably "jogged" from Columbus to Logan and was a little tired, not enough energy to be a "security risk" at Jim's Gym last night LOL ... although it could have been trojandaves T-shirt that displayed all of the PHS State Championships - filled up that shirt they did which might have intimidated the Logan security officials ...
