Athens may be the first team to go wire-to-wire as #1 on Pfloyd's Elite 8 next year ...

or did Ironton already accomplish that goal last season?

I have to disagree....2014-15 Bulldogs from Athens will be number #1. Start three juniors, a soph, and a freshman this year and they are 1b. They have so much potential.

No question they come back fully loaded and will have the number 1 spot to begin the season.

Care to weigh in pfloyd????
Just wondering....what is Athens best win this season??

Pfloyd...Would it be possible to get a roster for Logan teams? Wasn't able to make it up there earlier this winter. Would appreciate it. Don't know what we are going to do with all these makeup games. Hope the weather is good for Friday's game in the Old French City. It is Gallia's last home game. Senior night will be observed. PS--My junior year in high sxhool (1950-51)we had a freeze storm that postponed Gallipolis' trip to Logan. When regular season was over and both the Chiefs and Devils were eliminated from tourney play, GAHS went to Logan for a chance to win the SEOAL. It was Dick Shrider's second year. His teams had beaten Logan 3 straight times. Final score--Logan 59 Gallipolis 29. A freshman by the name of Eddie Joe Grandy tore the
Blue Devils up and won the title with a 11-3 mark. GAHS finished 10-4 in league play. Had GAHS won, Shrider would have probably moved on. After the defeat, he took over the junior high, freshman and reserve programs and the rest is history.

pfloyd: You make some good points to back up your ranking of the Trojans........I still disagree with it, though...........the Logan game was probably the worst shooting game that we've had all year. We made 11-15 three's vs. Piketon, and in quite a few other games made at least a half dozen triples. Defensively, we are consistently disrupting the opponent in the halfcourt, and also have been consistent in forcing turnovers. As you stated, we didn't convert any of the TO's into points against your Chieftains. A team sometimes has to win a game ugly.......and that was the case at Logan on Saturday.

I, too, have seen the major contenders for the D3 district title...........Zane Trace, Valley, Eastern Brown, Oak Hill, Chesapeake, and South Point. I feel the Trojans can beat any of those teams if they are on their game........but a performance like the Logan game in the tournament will send them home for the season.

In response to the 2014-2015 Pfloyd Elite 8 pre-season rankings, the Trojans have 6 of the top 7 back, with Isaiah Lisath being the only senior in that rotation. PHS starts 2 freshmen and a sophomore, Kyre Allison, who I will put up against anybody in the SE District for all-around play at both ends of the court. The exciting aspect of Portsmouth's program is that we should be really, really good for the next 4 years, given the youth of the varsity, a freshman team that is 10-1 even without 4 starters from the 8th grade team (two who went to other schools, and two who are on the varsity), and an 8th grade team that looks like it will supply the size in the paint that PHS is lacking this year.

Ironton had their top 6 players back for last season.......and the Fighting Tigers used that experience to advance to the Final 4.

At Portsmouth, the goal is always the state tournament.........wouldn't be surprised at all if this group of Trojans make it there at some point in their careers. We also have the coaching staff that has a proven track record of making it to Columbus.

If we are talking next year, you have to mention Unioto. Winners of 15 of 16, the Shermans return their top 7 in the rotation and 9 out of their 10 they routinely play. The Shermans will be a heavy favorite in the SVC and will contend with Athens for the top spot in D2.
After that, their 8th grade class is absolutely loaded with talent that will mix in well in a couple of years.

... great point daniC ... you beat me to it LOL ... Unioto is very good THIS year both inside and outside ... for the 2014-15 season they will be SCARY good inside and outside ...very few weaknesses imo ... Kyle Strange (11), Sawyer Lovely (10), Alek Adkins (11), Nick Cozad (11), Erique Hosely (10), Nick Corcoran (11), Trevor Detilion (11), Cole Cotrill (10) ... look for the Shermans to be ranked very high on Pfloyd's Pre-Season Elite 8 for sure ... Athens will be there obviously - Burrow/Watson/Leuhrman "squared", Zacchia Saltzman, Griffin Lutz - ALL will be returning for the Bulldogs ... Portsmouth right there as well Sky Oliver(11), Kyre Allison(10), Kendall Reynolds (9), Luke Purdy (9), Alex Dickerson (11), Hunter Gibson (11), Zach Delotell (10) ... others teams that I am looking at - Alexander is young, talented, inside outside game Seth Richardson/Chapman & Chapman , Grigsby, Moseley , Lukas Thompson only one senior on the team ...Circleville a really good nucleus of talent returning ... Warren will NOT be down and out when Patton/French graduate this year ! Mike Hall, Kidder, Drayer , Mazurkiewicz, Henthorn, Huck, Dennis, Welch and a very good JV squad AGAIN will reload the Big Bad Blue ... Vinton County will be much improved with more size and experience Ward/Albright/Bartoe/Chase Wood leading the pack ...

...others include Miami Trace , South Gallia, Symmes Valley, Coal Grove, Fairland, Chesapeake, Zane Trace , Piketon, Waverly all return a good cast of "players" that will have their teams ranked respectably in the Pre-season Elite 8 ...

The return of 6'3 forward Sean Caudill will help the Vikings next year tremendously. Had he not hurt his knee during football this year, VC could maybe be 10-4 and not 8-6.

Darn football, it ruined Athens 'S.O.S." argument ... LOL ... We needed two big wins over the Vikes!

Gotta remember Jr PG Nick Overly returning next year for the Shermans as well pfloyd. He's been huge in big games for the Shermans so far after making a big improvement from year to year.

Zane Trace returns a load, featuring Pierce Mowery, Brian Hall, Khristian Boltonhouse, Walt Petzel, and of course Eric Hutton. That's a very good and versatile 5 and they will have a couple of very good defensive guards (Trey Rittenhouse and Nate Nesser) back as well, so there won't be much of a drop off in Kinnikinnick.

Piketon will return much of their attack from this season, which is where the lack of Jeremy Farmer will actually help them. They return versetile and explosive Wyatt Brewster, along with sharpshooter Zack Jordan. Aaron Southworth should be back, along with Tristan Veech and Casey Moore. They have had a better season than many predicted with this group already and they could make another push towards an SVC title next season.

Adena and Paint Valley will both be improved while returning most of their lineups. Southeastern will lose a good bit in the middle, but will have excellent guard play again next season.

Lack of games leads to future predictions lol. This season's talk should spark up again in the next day or two. And big time come Sunday! Can't wait for this year's tournament, 5 very good teams at Southeastern, 4-5 at Logan, 6-7 at Waverly! This sectional tournament should be the best it's been in a couple of years!

All is quiet on the Elite 8 thread ... I have a feeling it's the 'calm-before-the-storm' ... come Sunday, SEOPS is going to lite up like a Christmas tree ... lol ... 50% of the fans will be happy, the other 50% will be mad - which always makes for great conversations.

I'm curious what the percentage will be in comparing Pfloyd's Elite 8 ranking - to what seeds they actually receive. (i.e.) Will Floyd's #15 be seeded higher than Floyd's #12 - which would be a 'loss' ..... or if #12 does get seeded higher than #15 - then its a win.

Of course 1a, 1b, 1c in the Elite 8 have to be stricken from the record books since they technically don't have a 'different' ranking ... lol

Chillicothe 82
Miami Trace 66

Chilli came out on fire hitting 5 threes in a row to build an early 10 pt lead, from then on it was pretty even in the 1st half with Chilli taking a 41-30 lead at half. MT went on a 11-2 run to start the 3rd and cut it to 43-41. the Cavs then went on a 20-8 run and never relinquished the lead after that. the officiating was poor to say the least, both ways. for one example, MT stole the ball and the officials granted Chilli a timeout as the Trace player was turning to dribble but after the timeout, they awarded MT the ball. never seen that before in my life.
I have to say, MT coaching is far from what it was last year and not In a good way. they didn't call one timeout to try and stop any momentum when the Cavs made their runs. they don't seem to make any in-game adjustments defensively or offensively and it's been happening all year. MT has as much talent as anyone in the district IMO but the coaching isn't up to the same standard.
