Totally agree with you some of the starters are only 8th graders and even a couple younger kids on the team. They play hard and give it their all. i give them tons of credit! I will give the hornets credit for backing off of the scoring. I know it was still very lopsided but trust me it could have been much much worse!

... alrighty high school hoops fans - I survived my stay at OSU ( was able to make it through 8 out of 12 treatments), made it back to reality here in the Land of Purple last night ... spent some time with the committee of one - me - going over /accumulating the results of the weekends action ... I have most of the scores I believe - missing results for Portsmouth East vs New Boston from Friday night and Waterford vs Wahama Saturday night ... the committee will put out a ranking this Wednesday evening - the ranking WILL take into account games played tonight (1/15) results will effect rankings on all 3 Elite lists ...

Floyd ... I know how much you like these - so hear is an 'out-side-the-box-score' look at Federal Hocking/Belpre from last night.

Federal Hocking - 51
Belpre - 41

The Lancers looked to have finally bought into Howie Caldwells system - and are starting to 'look' like a Howie Caldwell coached team. Remember last season Fed Hock had a big 7-footer which the offense had to run through, but this years team is more equipped to do the things Howie likes to do. You could make a case that this is really their first year trying to run his system instead of second. But sharing the basketball, several passes before a shot went off, tough defense, etc ... etc ... was clearly evident last night ... and that was without their best player, center Max carney, who went down in the 2nd quarter with an ankle injury.

One thing Fed Hock really had going versus Belpre was their motion offense (or what I still call the 'wheel') ... 1 primary ball handler, your main post player at the elbow - and the other three constantly cutting around or behind the post player ... I think I saw more back-door cuts to the basket last night than I have seen all year ... lol ... but the Lancers patience and efficiency was pretty darn good as they continuously drained the clock and looked for a high percentage shot every tme down the floor ... in the 4th quarter I looked up at the clock and there was a little over 5 minutes remaining and Fed Hock had the ball with a 42-38 lead ... they actually sat their and ran their motion offense ALL THE WAY DOWN to the 2:46 mark when Belpre finally got frustrated, reached in trying to steal a pass, and was called for the foul. The Fed Hock player drains two easy free throws ... I mean is was 'text book basketball' at its finest as Fed Hock woud give up a basket on the other end - but come right back down and start the time consuming offense all over again.

Now Fed Hock (10-3) might not have the talent of an Ironton or Eastern Brown in Division III - but if they stay true to what Howie is coaching them to do - they could make a little bit of noise in the tournament.

... good stuff 93dog ... I have always liked how Coach Caldwell "teaches" the game no matter where he is - emphasis on fundamentals at both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor ... Howie is my kind of coach 93dog ... just finished putting together the "6 1/2 week" version of the Elite 8 ! the committee of one - me - is getting ready to type onto the 'puter, should be ready to "sticky" in an hour or so ...
