What happened at Point Pleasant? Head scratcher just seeing the score.

From a Warren fan point of view, there were some questionable calls late in the game which controlled momentum. To their credit, Point made some key shots and obviously their foul shots. Just goes to prove that anything is possible in high school sports.

Warren not quite as good as last 10+ years, but the defense and discipline they play wins a lot of games. Old school ain’t so bad when you’re winning. Should be battle vs an improved Marietta team.

Tough loss Tuesday but hopefully that only refocuses the team on their goals. Huge game tomorrow and winner will be in the drivers seat for the TSL.

Both strong teams, obviously. Warren's losses have come against teams that are a collective 53-28, while Marietta's schedule shows losses to teams with a combined 61-17 record. Warren has made winning a habit -- Marietta still learning how to win close games.

I concur Hookshot. When you have 3 guys returning from last seasons varsity roster hiccups are bound to happen. In most game this season where an opponent has made a run Warren has been able to withstand that and hold on to win. Like Pfloyd said in another thread Warren's weakness, which which tends to happen to most young teams is their scoring drought. It's happened multiple times this season including against Point Pleasant in both matchups. The loss on Tuesday stings but tomorrow presents an opportunity to take control of first place in the TSL in it's inaugural season with a roster of 1 senior, 1 junior, and 9 sophomores, imo not too much to complain about there.

Marietta beat the brakes off Warren tonight. If not for some unforced turnovers in the middle of the game, this one could have been worse. Marietta big guy dominated Warren’s big guy.

Watched this one on the stream. Marietta dominated the Warriors from the opening tip, outside and especially inside

This was a good ol fashioned takin behind the woodshed game. It’s possible they could meet again down the road at a neutral site which could result in a different outcome. Marietta definitely protected their house. Good to see a good rivalry game.

Not that surprised that the Tigers held serve with the win, especially at home. A little surprised by the margin of the win, plus apparently with what ease it occurred.

Tigers flat out came to play tonight. Just the exact opposite of what usually happens with the Warriors dominating the Tigers. Warren’s youth tonight was exposed for their lack of varsity experience prior to this season. For most, it’s easy for most to forget that 9 of the 11 kids on Warren’s varsity are sophomore. Great for the next two years but it did not serve them well for tonight’s game.

Don’t know if it’s completely accurate but was told when leaving the gym that Warren from 16 for 61 from the floor. That’s not going to win many games if any. Tigers on the other hand were 21-36 if the information I was given is correct. Tigers can celebrate tonight. They earned based on their inspired play in front of an absolute packed house at Sutton Gymnasium.

But one thing is for sure, Coach Maddox and his experienced staff will use this as a learning exercise for his kids as well as a motivational tool to not let this happen again. He will have his team completely prepared next time out. But compared to the last 6 or 7 years, Marietta too now has a coach who will have his team prepared much the same. We can only hope Warren and Marietta can meet again in the districts. If so, it should be one heck of a game.

Heard on the radio tonight before the home win vs Belpre in the coaches interview that Marietta had 27 turnovers vs. Warren's 5, but that they out rebounded Warren by 30. That and the FG shooting stats mentioned above match my impressions of seeing the game in person: Warren couldn't make shots and Marietta did a wonderful job of defensive rebounding, while Marietta's possessions usually ended in points or turnovers (very few defensive rebounds)!

from the Marietta Times:
Warren made 18 FG (4 treys) with 6/13 on FTs
Marietta made 22 FG (6 treys) with 17/22 on FTs

Yes, and it was Marietta's defense that helped cause Warren's inability to get some of the shots they wanted. Typically significantly contested field goal attempts. If the Tigers play that kind of defense and improve on their turnover issues, they won't lose for quite a while. Of course, nothing guaranteed or even expected about that, but there is impressive potential with this club.

I look for Marietta to make some noise during the postseason. I like their combination of size, skill, experience, and coaching. Warren, on the other hand, is well coached but they are young and offensively rely on two players. They need to keep games close to have a chance. Rooting for both teams come tourney time.

100% agreed. Marietta is longer and much more athletic than Warren. Warren could not drive the basketball and got absolutely no easy looks. Marietta also out competed and out toughed them all night.
