D4 Wellston Sectional

Post by John Wooden »

If the season ended today I would put the teams in the following order.
(1) Reedsville Eastern 12-2
(2) Trimble 9-5
(3) Symmes Valley 8-3
(4) Waterford 7-4
(5) Southern 7-7
(6) Beaver Eastern 6-5
(7) South Gallia 5-7
(8) ISJ 8-6
(9) Miller 1-12

What does everyone else think? I know I put some teams with better records lower but that is how I see it.

Has Trimble defeated SV? If they have not I definately would switch those two.

4 team to district this year?

7 of the 9 at or above .500....nice

Will Wellston get their floor tacky enough to play basketball on? I've heard it is very slick.

(6) South Gallia Played a much harder schedule than Beaver. Just Beat a very good Wahama Team

What makes Trimble more deserving of the #2 than Symmes Valley? I'm sure they've played a tougher schedule....but also are 2 games behind them in the loss column.

Barely beating South Gallia is still beating South Gallia.

Someone give results of these 2 teams please?

I have no idea.....like I said, I'm sure Trimble has played a tougher schedule, but without seeing who each team has played.....I can't give either one the edge.

With 2 weeks until the tournament is seeded, I think there is still plenty of room for teams to move. I feel that Reedsville Eastern is a solid #1 and Miller is a solid #9 but everyone else is still fighting for #2-#8.

Bulldog93, You said ISJ had not beat anyone. Maybe thats true but they should be given credit for winning on the road. ISJ was also ahead of both Clay and Green with 2 minutes left in the game. Against SV thay trailed by only 3 after 3 quarters and against SG they played awful and still lost by only 4. Depth is a problem at ISJ but that is a given considering there is only 26 boys in grades 9-12. I know this regardless of who they draw they will show up and play hard. If they ever string 4 good quarters together they will be a tough out.

Bulldog93?

I have no clue who ISJ has beaten or not beaten ... I feel lucky when I can locate their record so I can update the tournament page on trivalleyconference.com ...

SG is the sleeper in this sectional. Seems like they lost to everyone in this sectional by 10 points or less and they keep improving as the year goes on. I think this sectional may be the most evenly matched it has ever been.

Looks like Symmes Valley is pretty even with Green and Clay. Symmes Valley has no bad losses and 2 pretty good wins over Clay and ISJ.

Trimble has a bad loss versus 4-10 Fed Hock and 3 pretty good wins of Wahama, Waterford and Southern.

Pretty darn even IMO.

It'll sort out a bit more........

Ironman 92 I put Trimble a head of Symmes Valley because they have a 6'7 player who is probably one of the best if not the best big men in D4 southeastern Ohio. I also went by the fact that Trimble beat SG by 18 at SG and Symmes Valley only beat SG at home by a couple. Fed Hock is 4-10 but they have a 7'0 player and they have been playing a lot better. There are about two weeks of basketball left before they decides who goes where in the brackets. These were just my opinion right now which may be way off from what they would actually be.

In 2002 Whiteoak went to the Final 4 of D4 via the SE district with no player in the rotation over 6'2.

Fed Hock is 4-10 with a 7'0 player....they don't sound too good.

6'7 is great...and I believe he is very good...but basketball is a team sport...as my first sentence in this post kinda proves.

Federal Hocking is better than their record indicates. They've lost alot of close games and in the TVC hocking division, any team with the exception of Miller is capable of winning versus any other team 1 through 8. Most all of the league games have been very compeitive and there is not much seperation between the top eight teams.

Should be a very interesting sectional this year. Just about any team can be any other team on any given night.
