Logan hires Chris Rider

Post by Logangrad »

Chris Rider, a veteran coach with 328 career victories, has been named the new head boys basketball coach at Logan High School.

The Logan-Hocking Board of Education made the announcement during Monday night's regular board meeting held at LHS.

Rider owns an impressive 328-179 coaching record, which ranks him in the all-time top 200 in the state of Ohio.

Craig Dunn has updated info in the Logan Daily and Online at logandailynews.com for the new coach.

If my math is correct, he averaged nearly 15 wins a season in the OCC. Not bad at all.

Dont know much about the guy; but the record speaks for itself. He knows how to win. He will bring that attitude to Logan and he will allow Logan to compete and play with the teams in the Central District. If they are going to keep Logan there, then we need to know how to play with the teams we will face. He will inherit alot of young talent and a solid foundation put in place by Coach Helber and the former assistants. Coach Walsh, Landis, Cassidy, all the way to the Junior High teams; those guys put in the hours and have allowed Logan to be in a place that the new coach will have some very good players ready to come up the next few years. All the best for him and the kids. Summer camps will allow them to get acquainted.

I think that Logan basketball just needs some stability at the top. 3 coaches in 3 years can't be constructive for the program. Coach Rider brings a solid resume to the Chieftain program, and I watched some of his teams at Reynoldsburg. The OCC is very competitive, and virtually every year he was there the Raiders were contenders for the conference crown. I would say it's a safe assumption that Logan will win more games than they lose under Rider's guidance. It's been my observation for years watching Logan and Portsmouth battle that the Chieftains have had some talent on their roster every year.

On another note, I and biggdowgg sure do miss Pizza Crossing!!

Good to hear he is meeting with the players first. They are the ones that have the most to gain . Positive start IMO. Looks like a good hire done in a timely manner.

Arguably the two most accomplished coaches in school history in the last two hires. Hopefully we won't need the third time to be a charm. I'm optimistic.

Go Chiefs!

Anyone have any word on who Coach Rider is either KEEPING as coaches from last season or bringing in as coaches/assistants ? ... I haven't heard any word on open gyms since Rider was named head coach on the boys side ...

... Coach Rider WAS in the building last week, met with both high school & middle school potential players ... he was wearing purple and carrying more purple ... my understanding is that he will not be teaching at the high school , he will be the Out of School Suspension person off campus at the middle school ... I have had pm's from posters from the MVL providing some insight into Coach Rider while at Maysville in this last stint since leaving Reynoldsburg ... looking forward to seeing what develops over the summer during the June "season" ...

Weird Logan would hire another person outside the program that's old.

Rider isn't that old. Early 50's, I think.

If he is old he is the youngest looking old guy I have seen.

Lol, hopefully he wins some MSL, LCL, or OCC titles for Logan. Beat Warren since Athens can't
