Zanesville tops Gallipolis, 70-34

All-Ohio Logan Aronhalt ripped the cords for 33 points and Andre Harris tallied 11 while Cedric Harris chipped in with 10 as Zanesville’s visiting Blue Devils handed Gallipolis Gallia Academy a 70-34 Southeastern Ohio League hardwood setback Friday evening.

The Z-Devils led 17-4, 40-11 and 55-24 at the quartermarks. Both coaches started clearing their benches with 5:18 left to play.

David Rumley paced GAHS with 18 points.

Zanesville, ranked eighth in this week’s Associated Press Division I poll, improved to 13-1 on the year and 8-0 in SEOAL action. Gallipolis dropped to 3-9 overall, and 1-7 in conference play.

Zanesville connected on 22 of 50 field goal attempts for 44 percent. At the line, ZHS was eight of 12 for 66.6 percent. The Z-Devils picked off 32 rebounds, eight by Aronhalt, had nine personal fouls, and committed 11 turnovers.

Gallipolis connected on 13 of 40 field goal attempts for 32.5 percent. Gallipolis was one of six behind the arc. GAHS was seven of 12 at the line for 58.3 percent. The G-Devils had 15 personals, losing Ethan Moore in the final period, picked off 22 rebounds, five by Chris Armstrong, and committed 21 turnovers.

Gallipolis had eight assists, two each by Ethan Moore and John Troester, 11 steals, two each by Quinton Nibert, Chris McCoy, Kyle Mitchell and Rumley. McCoy had a blocked shot. The G-Devils had 16 deflections.

Gallipolis will host Portsmouth Tuesday in its next outing. The G-Devils take on River Valley in a triple-header at Rio Grande Wednesday, then travel to Athens on Jan. 25. Zanesville will travel to Logan Tuesday, then host Chillicothe Friday in the SEOAL’s top game of the campaign.

In the reserve game, Zanesville soared to a 17-8 first period lead enroute to a 54-32 victory over the Gallipolis Blue Imps.

The Z-Blue Devils led 22-10 at halftime and 35-20 going into the final stanza.

Zanesville was 23 of 30 at the foul line for 76.6 percent. GAHS was 12 of 20 for 60 percent.

The loss knocked GAHS out of first place in the Southern Division reserve standings as Ironton pounded Jackson 73-44 Friday night. The I-Tigers JVs now lead the South Division with a 6-3 mark. Gallipolis dropped into a second place with a 5-3 loop record and 9-3 overall.

Zanesville’s reserves improved to 10-3 overall and 7-1 in the Northern Division, replacing Warren Local’s reserves. The Little Warriors lost 44-43 at Chillicothe to drop to 7-2 in JV action.

In Friday’s preliminary game, Allen Harris paced the Z-Devils with 15 points. Michael Lynn added 10 and Raheem Foreman eight. Nate Allison led GAHS with 11 markers. Cory Eberhard added nine, Nick Mitchell six and Austin Wilson five.

that is one of the best teams I have seen come through the Devils gym in a long time along with one of the best players.

Your right !!! My saying was 24-7 !!!Every one use to give me a hard time !!! Now looking back !!!I just smile :) Good Luck to both Blue teams !!! my guess one will make a bid to the final 4 in columbus!!! ;-)
