Last time I checked, the new coach can't hire himself. Why have I always thought that the school board had something to do in this matter ?
I should have given a little more thought to my last post. Maybe it's going to be a 2 for 1, or a 1 for 2, maybe 1 person to coach both the Boys and the Girls teams ?

Given the current financial uncertainty facing school boards during the pandemic, open coaching slots may not be filled with a new hire or offered only on a one coach for two or more sports basis. That arrangement was not uncommon in SEO back in 50's and 60's. It can be done and if the money crunch is indeed real, it might become the norm rather than the exception

You are certainly right in the fact that back in the 50's and 60's that this was an option for some of the schools. In this particular situation, one person at least was interviewed for the Boys head coaching position, and not hired, where as the Girls coach of the past 11 years was rehired, and then resigned 3 or 4 days later. I also get your point as far as the financial uncertainty that some of the school boards might be facing.

If they coach both boys and girls, they’ll get paid full amount for both programs. As for most school boards, clueless or spineless as far as athletics

Congrats to Heath McKinniss who was officially hired June 17th as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach at Oak Hill High School. I think that it had been hoped for and expected all along that this hire would be made.

So glad to finally have a coach at West Portsmouth. We are now a month behind so we have a lot of work to do. Good luck to the boys and coach McClanahan. A lot of talent returning this season so hopefully it all comes together quick.

Good luck to Coach McClanahan. Some good kids coming up and coming back who will work hard and have good attitudes. It will take time and people need to be patient with him.

Unless I missed it, I haven't seen anything posted. I'll go ahead and ask, has Wellston hired either a Boys or a Girls coach yet ?

Hearing really good things about the new coach. The boys like and respect him. It seems he understands what it takes to coach at a school where you're not gonna have 5 "basketball players" every year. I really think he's gonna do well here and if they play, West may have by the end of the season the best team they've had in several years.

West hired him with no staff. I hope he keeps Coach Fultz. He loves working with the kids!

That isn't true. His head assistant came with him from South Gallia and I believe was a head coach there for several years
