Re: Logan at Pickerington North
As far as I know they only made it out of district one time in history and that was when they were in the East district beating East Liverpool I think.Dang that is some tall timber for North. They must have been sleep walking against Marysville.

cbolt I think your correct. I want to say we beat East Liverpool and lost to Bo Reed and Lancaster. KD or LL would know for sure.

Re: Logan at Pickerington North
Actually that Bo Reid team was in 1986 I believe when they played for the District Final,Logan was pretty dominant that year and lost a close game to Brookhaven earlier in the year.Lancaster beat them by 10 or 11.The year they beat Liverpool pretty sure they lost to Hilliard in the regional semis.

2000. Lost to Hillard Davison by 15 in the regional semi finals. Gary was great coach but the Logan administration ran him out of towncbolt wrote:As far as I know they only made it out of district one time in history and that was when they were in the East district beating East Liverpool I think.Dang that is some tall timber for North. They must have been sleep walking against Marysville.

I liked Gary too, played a lot of pick up with him.Seems like there was some kind of scandal going on that got him ran out but not sure.

Looks like they start 6'5, 6', 6'6, 6'7, and 6'8

'86 is probably still the best Logan basketball team. Lost in the District final to Lancaster after Kerry York got injured. That was the Keith Myers/York/DJ Conrad etc. led team. I believe Logan had beaten Lancaster twice in the regular season. They finished 19-1 in the regular season I believe and played teams like Brookhaven and Columbus Wehrle.
Lancaster was in the SE District at that time.
Logan won the district for the only time in 1999-2000, beating Marietta in a one game sectional and then beating East Liverpool over in Steubenville in a one game District. There was a SE Sectional (Logan, Chilli, Marietta) and an East District (Zanesville, New Philly, Dover, and E Liverpool) I believe. The two sectional winners met in a one game district.
Logan lost in a Regional Semi to Hilliard Davidson at "The Barn." Davidson went on to win the region.
East Liverpool beat Logan the year before and went on to the state tournament.

Gary retired a year after his oldest son graduated (my class). I think he was burnt out. There were a couple off court rumors, but don't think he was forced out.Raider6309 wrote:2000. He stayed on as a teacher in Logan for the rest of his career and his younger son (Drew) played at Lancaster and made the state tournament with the McKnight brothers. Drew was about 6-8 or so. Had major knee problems that limited his career.
Gary is a member of Logan's Athletic Hall of Fame. Great coach. Until last year he was the last coach to win a league title. Had great staff when he was head coach too.

Kerry Yorks injury was a big factor . He was a very good player. Gary was a pretty darn good coach . Most of the time it's better to step aside and just enjoy watching your son play and him not having the pressure of Dad on the bench. Good team , Good Coach!!!

Re: Logan at Pickerington North
The year after Logan made the Regional, they returned all five starters and only lost I think two seniors. They won the sectional but lost in the one-game district to Zanesville (with Kevin Martin) at the Convo.
Logan has won 10 Sectional Titles:
1979-80 - 10-12 overall, 5-9 in SEOAL; Mark Shaw (HC)
1984-85 - 18-5 overall, 7-1 in SEOAL; Kirk Hardman (HC)
1985-86 - 22-2 overall, 8-0 in SEOAL; Kirk Hardman (HC)
1986-87 - 9-14 overall, 5-5 in SEOAL; Kirk Hardman (HC)
1988-89 - 19-4 overall, 8-2 in SEOAL; Gary Swinehart (HC)
1989-90 - 15-8 overall, 7-3 in SEOAL; Gary Swinehart (HC)

1998-99 - 17-5 overall, 12-2 in SEOAL; Gary Swinehart (HC)
1999-00 - 18-5 overall, 11-3 in SEOAL; Gary Swinehart (HC) Also E/SE District Champs

Logan was top 5 in AAA poll that year in 86 as well. We played Brookhaven at home who at the time was the #2 team in the state and we won on a last second buzzer beater by Keith Myers. I would put them up with the 1999-2000 team as the two best teams in school history. Logan's only loss during the reg season in 1986 was a return trip to Brookhaven where they were defeated. Logan finished 22-2 that year.
