I think since we have just had the AP All District Teams and the Coaches All District Teams come out that it would only be fitting for Pfloyd and 93 Bulldog to come out with their own All District Teams from the district games at the Convo.

How about an 'ALL-CONVO-TEAM' in terms of players ... I thought about doing that later this afternoon or evening ... I think my brain needs a break from high school hoops for a few hours ... lol ... That was a lot of darn games over the last 10 days ... I think I'm going to sit back and actually enjoy The Ohio State Buckeyes today. (hopefully)

Eastern Brown 61
Ironton 66 a final OT

... in the 2nd game of D3 District play Ironton SURVIVED the challenge put down by the Eastern Brown Warriors of Coach Beucler to move on to Regional play ... EB led for the biggest part of the game doing what most would say was impossible - beating the Ironton team on the boards ... outstanding scrappy game played by the team from the West side of Rte 23 ... EB was led by balanced scoring in period one as Jordan Payne (2)/Conner Purdin (4)/Nathan Scott(2)/Blake Doss(3) ...absent from the offensive equation was Chase Lawson as I'town's Josh Glover lived up to his name as he was draped all over #23 "like a glove" for not only that first period but for the biggest part of the entire game : Lawson (0) in the first ... Eastern Brown 11 Ironton 7 after one ... "round 2" was just as stingy defensively as the first - Ironton took RD 2 on the score card 11-8 ... after IHS BIG Man inside Trey Fletcher picked up his second foul - Trevor White picked up the board slack and putdown 4 points as well to draw the Fighting Tigers to within one at intermission Eastern Brown 19 Ironton 18 at intermission ... RD 3 turned into a battle of Ironton's Trio of Carter(5)/Fletcher(7)/White(6) vs Eastern Brown's "TEAM" of scorers Lawson(5)/Purdin(4)/Scott(6)/Doss(3)/Boudreau(2) ... EB continued to attack the boards keeping the rebounding edge for "most" of the period ... with the rebound edge came the scoring edge as well Eastern Brown 39 Ironton 36 after three rounds ... IF you have followed Ironton hoops for the last 3 seasons you KNOW that at some point in the game it becomes "Carter Time" Rd 4 became Zac Carter Time as the IHS point guard took over on the offensive end - keeping the ball in his hands, using his quickness to get into the paint, get to the line - with the ball in Carter's hands Ironton forged a 44-44 time at the 4:09 mark of the 4th ... with the ball in Carter's hands getting into the paint AND getting to the line someone on the EB roster paid the price - Conner Purdin picked up the fouls for EB trying to control the Carter attack - Purdin fouled out with 1:34 left in the game Carter connected on 2 FTs - Ironton 50 EB 46 ... 1:34 left to play ... on the other side of the court IF you know anything about the Eastern Brown Warriors - they play with the same "demeanor" as their coach - Coach Beucler ... there is NO quit in either one -TEAM or Coach ... Chase Lawson for EB put the Warriors on HIS shoulders - put the ball on the floor/got to the line (6/8 from the line in the 4th) ... scrappy defensive pressure/no quit attitude/drive to the rim with :20 on the clock for the 53-53 tie <= Eastern Brown basketball ... Eastern Brown 53 Ironton 53 end of regulation ... an extra period of action was time for Ironton's Zac Carter to show why he IS the premier PG in Southern Ohio ... "I'm going to the rim until you show you can stop me" - Carter went 8/8 from the line in OT ... EB had no answer although 2 triples in the OT (Lawson/Doss) kept things interesting - the Fighting Tigers EARNED their trip to regional action ... Ironton 66 Eastern Brown 61 OT a final ...

Portsmouth 54
Lucasville Valley 50 a final

... in the marque matchup of the evening in D3 - the SIZE of Valley (Yates 6-3/Keller 6-3/Riehl 6-5/West 6-5/Dwyer 6-6) vs the SPEED/QUICKS/PRESSURE DEFENSE of Portsmouth (McKinley/Evans/Carter/Whitley/Collins/Brachett/Edwards) ... as Cheap Seat fans WE saw it ALL - size matters/hand speed - foot speed/defensive pressure matters ... on this night Defensive Pressure trumped Size - BARELY ... Valley could not have had a better start to the game as Jordan West went off early - drive for a deuce/a trifecta/and a dunk for 6 quick points and a Valley lead ... the LVHS support cast owned the paint with 2 put back baskets - the BIGS were controlling the boards on the court and on the scoreboard ... Coach Collins' team sports ALL seniors but one, Coach Collins' team has been to the SHOW in C'bus, Coach Collins' team knew that 5 minutes of the first quarter does not a game make ... PHS showed a glimpse of the defensive pressure we had expected - forcing 4 Valley turnovers - PHS stayed within reach ... Valley 16 Portsmouth 11 after one ... from the Cheap Seats you could see the tempo go up in the 2nd period as PHS continued to harass on the perimeter, but more importantly the Trojans caused the Valley boyz to "speed up their own tempo" - got out of their comfort zone as the Trojans gained the advantage on the scoreboard Portsmouth 26 Valley 25 at the half ... Quarter #3 proved to be Valley's best of the night - as the Indians came out of the locker room - under control offensively - they were not in any hurry to get off a perimeter shot, worked the ball into their strength taking advantage of their size down low Dwyer (4)/Dunn (2)/Howard (2) ... with the patience on offense came dominance defensively - Portsmouth was one and done at the offensive end hitting only 1 fg in the period for a total of 6 points ... Portsmouth 32 Valley 39 after 3 periods ... the Cheap Seat buzz was that Lucasville Valley had control of the paint, were using their size inside at both ends of the floor, the ONLY way PHS was going to get the "W" was to turn up the tempo ... it had to come out of their pressure defense ... by happen chance - the Trojans forced the tempo up that notch - Valley lost control on the court as the increased tempo put the Trojans in THEIR comfort zone ... PHS took advantage of their quickness to get into the lane, get to the rim, get to the FT line ... the Trojans went to the line for 16 FTs in the 4th quarter converting on 12 ... the FTs were bookended by Carter/Collins treys ... Valley had no answers for Portsmouth ... going 0/6 from behind the arc in the 4th, only 3 fgs total in the final period ... Valleys last lead was 46-50 with 1:10 to play as Portsmouth closed it out on a 8-0 run into the regionals ... Portsmouth 54 Lucasville Valley 50 a final ...

... Pfloyd's Official/UNofficial Napkin Stats - Lucasville Valley

Scoring : Blake Yates 10, Hayden Dunn 10, Robbie Dwyer 9, Patrick Riehl 7, Jordan West 7 (all in the first 2 minutes of quarter #1), Will Howard 5, Luke Keller 2

FTs : 10/15

TOs: 16

At the Rim : 14 ONLY

Great win by the TROJANS against a very very good Valley squad. Was even more enjoyable that I was able to be in the Convo to see this "TITANIC STRUGGLE" between these two great Scioto County schools. Also enjoyed a fine evening in the company of Biggdowgg, and Tobias. Great to see trojandave, and jgordan. What was especially the biggest treat of all was being introduced to, and having a 20-30 minute conversation with the legendary PFLOYD. This man is such an iconic figure here on the preps, and keeps the likes of this old trojans as well as many other SEO Basketball fans who live so far away from the hot bed of Ohio BBALL so intellectually informed. It was both an Honor and a pleasure to meet you sir and thank you so much for your very educated informational opinons of what is basketball south of the "LANCASTER DIXON LINE". Continued good health my friend!!!

Thought I would dig up the final game wrap-up from the 3 Weeks of the Convo from the 2010-11 Survive and Advance Season ... the Portsmouth vs Chesapeake FINAL last year was one of the best high school games I have watched EVER ... hoping that this years' matchup is just as good for us Cheap Seat guys !!!

... what a great game to finish up the 3 Weeks of the Convo!!! Congratulations to Coach Collins and the Trojans!!! - Portsmouth heading for the Show! ... just a few happy PHS fans after the final buzzer went off and the Copley deep three attempt went wide right ... Portsmouth 69 Chesapeake 68 a final ...

... the planets may not have been aligned BUT it was a "super moon" - the first in 18 years - the Portsmouth Trojans took advantage of any and all of the magic of the night in defeating Chesapeake in A'town tonight ... Portsmouth came out of the tip looking the team which had been there before - no regional final jitters as PHS set the tone for the entire game by showing their hand at both ends of the floor ... on the offensive end - put the ball in Bendolph's hands allow the PG to penetrate and dish ... in the first quarter the recipient of the Bendolph passes was Dion McKinley who collected 8 pts in the quarter to pace the Trojans ... on the defensive end it was "manhandle" the CHS big man Colin Kennedy (led by Dion McKinley - outstanding) while using team speed on the perimeter to make the 'peake "work" for everything ... Colin Kennedy 0 points in the quarter for CHS ... Portsmouth 15 Chesapeake 7 after one ... quarter 2 saw Portsmouth continue to shutdown the 6-7 Kennedy down low (0 pts in the 2nd) but if you follow the 'peake you know that one man does not a TEAM make - Austin McMaster stepped up to bring CHS back into the game hitting 14 second quarter points ... game on! ... a key for the PHS side was the foul trouble of Patrick Hintz/Javon Thompson and Eric Kennedy ALL 3 made the attempt to guard the PHS pg Andrew Bendolph - didn't happen as Bendolph continued to get into the paint drawing fouls and dishing ( 2 assists in the quarter for treys by Evans/Whitley) ... Portsmouth 31 Chesapeake 27 at intermission ... the 3rd quarter had Portsmouth holding serve by matching each 'peake basket in the quarter ... when CHS made a run to close the gap - the ball was put into Bendolphs hands , AB didn't disappoint as PHS would answer every Chesapeake run ...Portsmouth 49 Chesapeake 44 after three quarters ... as a fan of high school hoops you have to love the 4th quarter of any championship game ... especially a championship with a trip to The Show at THE SCHOTT in C'bus on the line - PHS vs CHS ... final quarter didn't disappoint as both teams left it all on the floor ... Chesapeake came out with guns blazing to start the period behind senior Nathan Copley ... the Panthers taking the lead at 52-51 with 6:29 to play on 2 Copley FTs BUT (and we all know there is always a BUT) the "super moon" magic kicked in for the Trojans as the Panthers NEXT 6 trips down the floor resulted in 6 'peake turnovers, 0 'peake shots and a Portsmouth 56-52 lead with 3:36 left in the game as PHS called a timeout as the Trojan student section chanted "WE ARE ONE!!!" ... Portsmouth extended the lead to 62-56 with 2:07 remaining - lots of stunned Purple fans in the stands ... Coach Davis' boyz weren't done - coming out of a timeout Eric Kennedy drained 2 shots from downtown while Bendolph continued to add to the PHS total from the line ... Portsmouth 65 Chesapeake 62 with 1:11 left to play ... Chesapeake's defense kept the ball out of AB's hands ,forced 2 PHS turnovers - Chesapeake took the lead with :11 seconds left in the game Chesapeake 68 Portsmouth 67 ... :11 seconds is an eternity if you are ahead ... :11 seconds with Andrew Bendolph on the floor for PHS equals "advantage PHS" ... with all eyes on AB for PHS ... the inbounds went to Evans who went the length of the floor unstopped in the paint for 2 points & 1 ! ... Evans missed the FT but he gave the Trojans the lead one last time as the Copley long three went wide right ... Portsmouth 69 Chesapeake 68 a final ...

... pfloyd Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Chesapeake ...

Scoring ... Austin McMaster 23, Nathan Copley 22, Eric Kennedy 10, Colin Kennedy 7, Patrick Hintz 6

3-pointers ... 6/13 ... Copley 2, Hintz 2, Eric Kennedy 2

FTs ... 12/15

TOs ... 19 ... one of two keys in this loss for CHS the 6 straight TOs after the Panthers took the lead at 52-51 ...

... great season for Coach Davis and the Panthers AGAIN ... returning next season will be Eric Kennedy, Patrick Hintz, Austin McMasters, Brandon Noble, Javon Thompson - the cupboard "ain't" empty for 'peake fans ... don't be surprised to see Chesapeake meet back up with Portsmouth again in the regional finals next season ... thanks goes to Nathan Copley/Colin Kennedy - it has been a pleasure to see both of these young men in action over the years for Chesapeake ... we wish you nothing but the best in your futures ...

...pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats for SE Region/State bound Portsmouth Trojans ...

Scoring ... Andrew Bendolph 22, Wayne Evans 21, Dion McKinley 17, Tre' Underwood 4, Zaide Whitley 3, Mason Jordan 2

3 pointers ... 2/6 ... Whitley 1, Evans 1

FTs ... 19/28 ... PHS was 10/13 in the 4th quarter ...

TOs ... 13

... Congratulations again to SEOAL representatives - the Portsmouth Trojans ... a great game plan by Coach Collins & staff - put the game in the hands of the senior PG Andrew Bendolph ... let AB control the game and get everyone on the PHS "TEAM" involved ... defensively the Key Napkin Stat of the game has be the defensive job done on Colin Kennedy by Dion McKinley - holding the 6-7 Chesapeake "big" scoreless in the first half and only 7 pts total for the game - outstanding ... Bendolph held McMaster to but 2 FTs in 4th quarter ... Portsmouth bloodied 'peake's nose early with the 15-7 first quarter lead ... wouldn't let the Panthers get the upper hand in the game - PHS always had an answer for any/all peake runs ... the student sections chant was most fitting "WE ARE ONE!!!" - Portsmouth earned their way to the final by playing, winning as ONE - as TEAM ... best of luck to Southern Ohio's representative in Columbus this week ...

While I think Chesapeake has a real good chance of avenging last years loss Wednesday - I'm pretty intrigued about a possible IRONTON vs PORTSMOUTH regional final ... Its virtually impossible for two long time hated rivals to meet up in a regional championship game with a chance to go to state on the line ... I mean, wouldn't Ironton & Portsmouth be considered 'THE BIGGEST' rivalry in southeastern Ohio? I think so. For them to aviod each other in the sectional first, then win a district title by again avoiding each other, then win a regional semi-final to set up a match-up between them is just crazy!

I'll be happy with whatever happens Wednesday and whatever game we end up with on Saturday ... But a possible PORTSMOUTH vs IRONTON definitly has some intrigue to it.

I agree that would be an excellent game, I'm sure this is probably the best if not way up there as far as rivalries go. The great Football traditions both schools have had just adds to the rivalry as a whole. Plus they've have both had tons of sucess across the board, if they meet up I'll be sure to catch that one

... Southern/Southeastern Ohio hoops took it on the chin in D2 losing both semi-final games at the Convo:

Chillicothe 45
St. Clairsville 53 final

Waverly 48
New Philly 50 final

... the adage : first TEAM to 50 wins holds true again ... going to be an all East District Regional D2 final Saturday ...

Not sure if Kretzer was sick or something - but he lost his legs mid-way into the third quarter ... Had his hands on his knees the entire second half - just completely out of breath & energy.

It seemed Waverly was the better team, had better players, etc... etc... But all the 50/50 balls went to new Philly, loose rebounds - New Philly ... A better team just got out hustled ... Plain and simple.
