What players didn’t get charges called on them? Burg is mainly an outside shooting team that don’t penetrate much.

Just enlighten us on the plays please!!

I agree, Burg is a perimeter team, but just imagine the highlight reel Holden could put together if he penetrated more often!!

Fun game to watch. Burg stormed out but Alexander dominated the paint. Very close to end until Burg hit it's foul shots

Maybe defensively, not offensively. But that was self inflicted though.

The game was incredibly frustrating to watch from an Alexander perspective.

Alexander
4-of-24 from three points range = 16.7%
18-of-59 from the field = 30.5%
Caleb Terry 4-for-8 (50%)

For the love of God, get him the ball!

Spartans could have easily won this game. 10 turnovers (a bunch off airballs) that led to 18 Wheelersburg points.

Caleb Terry 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. Pretty good game by that young man. Unfortunately J.K. did not, just had one of those nights. 1-of-14 from the field, 1-for-8 from beyond the arc and 6 turnovers.
Dylan Mecum 13 points
Kam Riley 12 points

spartans_fan wrote: Mon Mar 04, 2019 2:02 pm This game will have to be 42-38 for Alexander to have a shot at winning. I don't see how we score in the 50-60 to win this game. I seriously doubt Alexander plays a ton of zone. We have shown it several times but it is not our best defense. We are at our best when we just guard our physical man. However, I would love to see us do something like Chesapeak does with that extended zone and keep Terry in the middle to clean it up. But, like I said, that is not really in our bag of tricks. With one week to prepare, maybe we could put in some new wrinkles.

Nice to see Alexander get a win at the Convo, now we are going for something that has never happened. Get that District title!

Go Alex!
If Alexander goes man, Burg will no doubt start Holden down low like they usually do and draw Terry out and make him guard the perimeter. Is he quick enough to not get blown past by Holden? Or any of Burg's shooters?
I think the spartans played defense exactly the way they needed to play. This was the type of game it needed to be for the spartans to get the win until four straight turnovers allowed the pirates to get out on the break and open the game up. I think the spartans defense exposed some flaws tonight, but it still was not enough to overcome a very good player and team.

Of course most of the time you know that Holden is going to get his points, he's to good to hold down the whole game. Mullins is to good of a shooter, his confidence is just down right now, he just needs that first shot or two to go in. To me tonight, the kid that really gave them a big lift on offense and defense, was Carter McCorkle. The kid can jump out of the gym, plus he's getting more confidence every game with the ball in his hands. I think he will be one of the best big men in the SOC-2 next year.

Really proud of the spartans. I felt like we played an excellent game and Caleb showed the kind of player he is capable of being. Really felt like it was the best game he played all year. Kudos to the coaches for getting him involved and allowing him to stay active. This was a back and forth game. Alexander dominated the third quarter, but turnovers killed us late in the fourth quarter. Mecum and Riley played great games. They needed to play that way to keep us close. Brown just impresses me every time he is on the floor.

The holden kid is for real. He was engaged early and really put the pirates on his back. Special player.

Good luck going forward. Hope to see more of this kind of performance from the Spartans next year.

I have been saying that all year. Just don't understand why that kid does not get 12-15 shots a game. We did better than we normally do getting Terry the ball tonight, but he has a ton of skill. It was nice to see him play a ton of minutes tonight and being as active as he is.

You also made a good point about JK. As poorly as we shot the ball, I still think the turnovers were the biggest issue.
