And one more thing Dime Portsmouth's,Superintendent,Principal,Asst. Principal,School board President, along with the rest of the school board,Parents,Teachers,Students and Community, have all heard how the boys have been a class act since Collins has taken over,at home and on road trips. The principal at Warren said last year that Portsmouth was the most behaved group, and respected that they played all year, and after the Florida trip he was called into the principals office and recieved high praise for the boys behavior.

Actually I admitted I was wrong and congratulated Portsmouth like an adult. Yes Portsmouth smashed Chesapeake by hitting a shot with 2-3 seconds left.

LIke I said earlier, Lloyd McGuffin also led Huntington High to the state tournament, and a monkey would have done the same.

Belittling? I said I don't think he is a great coach, didn't say anything about him as a person. I am sure he is a good guy.

I was wrong last year? On what exactly? That the OVC produced as many regional teams as the mighty SEOAL? I was wrong about one thing, and that was me picking Chesapeake to beat Portsmouth, and it nearly happened.

So because I thought CHesapeake was better I am talking negative and hating? I guess 99% of the people who don't cheer for YOUR team are negative and haters.

You need to grow up and get a life. This is a forum to discuss things like an adult, which is obvious you are not.

Please independent school us with your vast knowledge of who is a d1 prospect and who is not. Dime is saying something nice about two of his friends.

Dude you need to grow up!

Your credibility may be in question by saying you'd take Coach Collins over Norm Perisn and Tom Barrick.

I was in myrtle beach this weekend so I missed the game, I was getting spotty service so my updates were sporadic at best.

Great season Chesapeake, you ran into a buzz saw tonight. Very proud of the effort you have given all season.

Congrats to the Trojans, truly deserving.
Exact post after the game.

Here is a Panther fan i will man up and post...

"1st off the officialshad nothing to do with the outcome i thought they were evenl bad both ways.

GAME RECAP

1st quarter: The Trojans came out jacked and ready to play with a great mind set. Made the Panthers go against all of their ways. The Trojans made chesapeake move to fast in the half court and forced them to take terrible shots. (1st QUARTER WINNER PORTSMOUTH)

2nd quarter: Chesapeake started to settle down and hit some shots but Portsmouth kept the momentum. (2nd QUARTER WINNER PORTSMOUTH)

3rd quarter: The Panthers came out and finally matched the Trojans main word being MATCHED. Both defenses did not play to their ability. (3rd QUARTER WINNER TIE)

4th quarter: At the start of the quarter it was all trojans then the PAnthers finally showed the will to win and took over late in the 4th bu it was to little to late. (4th QUARTER WINNER CHESAPEAKE)

Over all it was a great game to attend. Though the defensive battle we expected didnt live up tothe hype it was still one hell of a ball game. My heart goes out to the Panthers because i am and will always b a panther fan, but my wishes and respct go to the Trojans. GOOD LUCK!!! The only thing Portsmouth needs to work on is their Offense in the half court, due to the fact from here on out the talent level wil be increased and the athleticism will be superior. Last night it was more like a one on one show. But whatever works works."

So therefor I have no clue as to why you are bashing me besides the fact that you don't agree with my point of view! Sorry we are not all the same.
Also Trojan Dave im sure that there will be many different #1's this year but to be the suspected pre-season number one is pretty good b/c people are now expecting you to be good! Which is what i expect from the Trojans this year! They have my respect!

Who is D1,well first of all,I understand that from time to time some of these young men who play ball get on this thread and read what is said about them, their coaches and teams,so for me to give my opinion about the skill set of a young man and what they may lack, and bruise dreams is never going to be my style, but four things you must have and one you will need.First is speed and lots of it,number two is if you don't have speed be able to knock down the three with very high accuracy, three is to be very athletic, jump, defend, and guarding falls under that catagory, four, for guards and excellent ballhandler notice I said excellent, for bigs size, because size can't be taught
Those are things you must have, and the one you may need is a coach who will work for you,or being in the right place at the right time, you may need one of those.
Kretzer,London, congrats and to all others who have the dream keep working hard, and thats who is D1.

Just want to clarify I have not put a player down. I said for the Trojans McKinley and Evans are D-1 prospects b/c i know D-1 schools have showed interest in both of them. I also said other Trojans could play on the college level. BTW, In southern ohio i know of 5 players that have had interest or offers from Div. 1 Schools (Kretzer, London, McMaster, Mckinley and Evans) there may be others I do not know about!

Independent 2012 brings up a very good point about how the Trojans of last year were complemented on their behavior and sportsmanship by a lot of other teams.........Coach Collins also started having the kids wear blazers and khaki's to games and represent PHS with class........he also started a study table for the kids with tutors available, of which I volunteered to help out. He many times took the kids out to eat........he has done a lot of things behind the scenes that will never show up in the box score but are greatly appreciated by his kids. In fact the entire coaching staff deserves these accolades also.

Although Coach Collins coached at Shawnee State for 18 years, he is only in his 3rd year as a high school head coach........there have been only been 2 coaches in the great history of Portsmouth High School who have had better records in their first 2 years.......Tom Smith went 40-8 in 1982 and 1983, and Joe Suboticki went 48-5 in 1988 and 1989. Even the two winningest coaches in PHS history, George Heller and Red Hopkins didn't start out better than Coach Collins.

As far as taking Collins over Barrick or Persin yes I would,he's young, refreshing, enthustiastic, not knocking the other two, they may have experience on the high school level but I like what Collins brings to the table,he is a players coach who has proven he can take a good team who buys into his philosophy a long way come tourney time, and just because someone has coached 20 or 30 years doesn't mean they are great coaches, they just didn't get fired,he and the A.D. may have been drinking buddies, who knows the reason as to why,but when people on an open forum such as this say that our coach Collins is a liability when he has proven to be anything such, thats unfair, speak the truth, and if it is so then so be it,may not like it but if it's true,I will deal with it and move on,our boys had one tech last year, why would you make it sound like we averaged two a game, when it comes to the trojans keep it real because if you don't I will be here.

... what a great game to finish up the 3 Weeks of the Convo!!! Congratulations to Coach Collins and the Trojans!!! - Portsmouth heading for the Show! ... just a few happy PHS fans after the final buzzer went off and the Copley deep three attempt went wide right ... Portsmouth 69 Chesapeake 68 a final ...

... the planets may not have been aligned BUT it was a "super moon" - the first in 18 years - the Portsmouth Trojans took advantage of any and all of the magic of the night in defeating Chesapeake in A'town tonight ... Portsmouth came out of the tip looking the team which had been there before - no regional final jitters as PHS set the tone for the entire game by showing their hand at both ends of the floor ... on the offensive end - put the ball in Bendolph's hands allow the PG to penetrate and dish ... in the first quarter the recipient of the Bendolph passes was Dion McKinley who collected 8 pts in the quarter to pace the Trojans ... on the defensive end it was "manhandle" the CHS big man Colin Kennedy (led by Dion McKinley - outstanding) while using team speed on the perimeter to make the 'peake "work" for everything ... Colin Kennedy 0 points in the quarter for CHS ... Portsmouth 15 Chesapeake 7 after one ... quarter 2 saw Portsmouth continue to shutdown the 6-7 Kennedy down low (0 pts in the 2nd) but if you follow the 'peake you know that one man does not a TEAM make - Austin McMaster stepped up to bring CHS back into the game hitting 14 second quarter points ... game on! ... a key for the PHS side was the foul trouble of Patrick Hintz/Javon Thompson and Eric Kennedy ALL 3 made the attempt to guard the PHS pg Andrew Bendolph - didn't happen as Bendolph continued to get into the paint drawing fouls and dishing ( 2 assists in the quarter for treys by Evans/Whitley) ... Portsmouth 31 Chesapeake 27 at intermission ... the 3rd quarter had Portsmouth holding serve by matching each 'peake basket in the quarter ... when CHS made a run to close the gap - the ball was put into Bendolphs hands , AB didn't disappoint as PHS would answer every Chesapeake run ...Portsmouth 49 Chesapeake 44 after three quarters ... as a fan of high school hoops you have to love the 4th quarter of any championship game ... especially a championship with a trip to The Show at THE SCHOTT in C'bus on the line - PHS vs CHS ... final quarter didn't disappoint as both teams left it all on the floor ... Chesapeake came out with guns blazing to start the period behind senior Nathan Copley ... the Panthers taking the lead at 52-51 with 6:29 to play on 2 Copley FTs BUT (and we all know there is always a BUT) the "super moon" magic kicked in for the Trojans as the Panthers NEXT 6 trips down the floor resulted in 6 'peake turnovers, 0 'peake shots and a Portsmouth 56-52 lead with 3:36 left in the game as PHS called a timeout as the Trojan student section chanted "WE ARE ONE!!!" ... Portsmouth extended the lead to 62-56 with 2:07 remaining - lots of stunned Purple fans in the stands ... Coach Davis' boyz weren't done - coming out of a timeout Eric Kennedy drained 2 shots from downtown while Bendolph continued to add to the PHS total from the line ... Portsmouth 65 Chesapeake 62 with 1:11 left to play ... Chesapeake's defense kept the ball out of AB's hands ,forced 2 PHS turnovers - Chesapeake took the lead with :11 seconds left in the game Chesapeake 68 Portsmouth 67 ... :11 seconds is an eternity if you are ahead ... :11 seconds with Andrew Bendolph on the floor for PHS equals "advantage PHS" ... with all eyes on AB for PHS ... the inbounds went to Evans who went the length of the floor unstopped in the paint for 2 points & 1 ! ... Evans missed the FT but he gave the Trojans the lead one last time as the Copley long three went wide right ... Portsmouth 69 Chesapeake 68 a final ...

... pfloyd Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Chesapeake ...

Scoring ... Austin McMaster 23, Nathan Copley 22, Eric Kennedy 10, Colin Kennedy 7, Patrick Hintz 6

3-pointers ... 6/13 ... Copley 2, Hintz 2, Eric Kennedy 2

FTs ... 12/15

TOs ... 19 ... one of two keys in this loss for CHS the 6 straight TOs after the Panthers took the lead at 52-51 ...

... great season for Coach Davis and the Panthers AGAIN ... returning next season will be Eric Kennedy, Patrick Hintz, Austin McMasters, Brandon Noble, Javon Thompson - the cupboard "ain't" empty for 'peake fans ... don't be surprised to see Chesapeake meet back up with Portsmouth again in the regional finals next season ... thanks goes to Nathan Copley/Colin Kennedy - it has been a pleasure to see both of these young men in action over the years for Chesapeake ... we wish you nothing but the best in your futures ...

...pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats for SE Region/State bound Portsmouth Trojans ...

Scoring ... Andrew Bendolph 22, Wayne Evans 21, Dion McKinley 17, Tre' Underwood 4, Zaide Whitley 3, Mason Jordan 2

3 pointers ... 2/6 ... Whitley 1, Evans 1

FTs ... 19/28 ... PHS was 10/13 in the 4th quarter ...

TOs ... 13

... Congratulations again to SEOAL representatives - the Portsmouth Trojans ... a great game plan by Coach Collins & staff - put the game in the hands of the senior PG Andrew Bendolph ... let AB control the game and get everyone on the PHS "TEAM" involved ... defensively the Key Napkin Stat of the game has be the defensive job done on Colin Kennedy by Dion McKinley - holding the 6-7 Chesapeake "big" scoreless in the first half and only 7 pts total for the game - outstanding ... Bendolph held McMaster to but 2 FTs in 4th quarter ... Portsmouth bloodied 'peake's nose early with the 15-7 first quarter lead ... wouldn't let the Panthers get the upper hand in the game - PHS always had an answer for any/all peake runs ... the student sections chant was most fitting "WE ARE ONE!!!" - Portsmouth earned their way to the final by playing, winning as ONE - as TEAM ... best of luck to Southern Ohio's representative in Columbus this week ...

Independent,

Thank you for expressing all of your vast knowledge, I am well prepared to be a recruiting coordinator now.

One thing is obvious to me that you have no clue about the accomplishments of either Norm Persin or Tom Barrick. They not only win, they win consistently. Norm PErsin at Chesapeake averaged nearly 20 wins a season. Must have been because he was drinking buddies with the AD. Norm is currently the 8th winning-est coach in Ohio high school history and has the second highest win percentage of the top 10 coaches. A Paul Walker award winner, and coached the East in the McDonald's All-American game. Helped run the Lebron, MIchael Jordan, 5-star, Addidas ABCD, and Rick Pitino camps.

Next time you want to make snide comments about coaches actually know what you are talking about!

People can have an opinion on your coach that may be contrary to what you think. This forum is for open debate, just as we are doing now. If people don't have 100% faith in your coach, like you do, that doesn't make them bad people like you like to hint at.

Just like you do, I stuck with my team and had faith they would go back to state, and like an adult when I am wrong I said I was wrong and gave the other team credit. Because I didn't think Portsmouth would beat Chesapeake didn't make me "wrong about most things", it only made me wrong about one. I thought Chesapeake in PFloyds poll deserved to be #1 last year, and I provided examples to back up my point.

I didn't run and hide when Chesapeake lost, like an adult I gave MY team praise and congratulated them, and then did the same to your team.

Lastly, please top putting commas everywhere and running sentences together. It is very difficult to read what you are trying to convey with 900 run-on-sentences.

Good luck to Portsmouth and I will cheer for you in every game but two (Chesapeake and Ironton).

#1 PORTSMOUTH TROJANS- I couldn't agree more with Pfloyd, the return a great nucleus Evans, McKinley, Whitley but losing Underwoods intimidating factor and Bendolphs defensive skill and outstanding point guard ability it wouldn't be supprising to me to see the Trojans fall. Also I have never been sold on Coach Collins coaching ability. I just know he has been blessed with a skilled team with great athletic ability.

#2 CHESAPEAKE PANTHERS- Return 3 starters Austin Mcmaster (1st team all OVC, 1st team All-District, 3rd Team All-State), Patrick Hintz (All-OVC), and Javon Thompson. Also sharp shooting 6'5 Eric Kennedy is back. He would have been a starter on any other team last year but he had a new system to learn. Roll player Brandon Noble steps in to fill the shoes of Big Colin Kennedy that will be tough and you know you cant replace a Nathan Copley. With Coach Davis at the Helm he will turn any squad he has on the floor into winners. My only question is the depth.

#3 LOGAN ELM- Has a great Coach in Stiverson and a great core nucleus. Their up temp defense will win them games or lose them games by possibly being over aggressive. The Braves need a few younger guys to step up. This could be a week spot but if anybody can mature players it would be Coach Stiverson.

#4 CHILLICOTHE- I have them at 4 only on the sole reason is I don't know how much the big man Malik London can do by himself when the Cavs face a team with an all around solid group of guys on the floor.

#5 IRONTON TIGERS- The Junior Crew Standout Juniors Trey Fletcher and Zac Carter will carry the load and be the work horses. Also playing Big Roles Junior Trevor White, Nick Culbertson and Dion Brown given he plays. I Believe Brown will be the deciding factor, he didn't play last year due to injury. He is a long 6'2 with great athletic ability and strength he is a tough match-up. With Coach Lafons ability to connect with his players don't be surprised if the Tigers are the #1 by years End!
