Mason Co. Kentucky

Post by hoopin »

I know this is off-topic regarding Ohio high school bball, but does anyone know if the Mason Co./Bryan Station game is still on tonight? It's a #1 vs. #2 matchup and Mason Co's last home game. There are two brothers starring for Mason Co. that are originally from the Peebles area. Thanks.

Mason Co. is very VERY tough this year. I think they will go all the way.

Tough loss tonight, especially on senior night. Miller was double and triple teamed all night, Setty and the rest didn't step up and hit their shots though Mason Co. did cut the lead to 3 late. Bryan Station showed why they're the cream of the crop in Ky, Mack is a stud and got hot early on. Good luck in the tourny Royals!

There are two Setty boys at Mason County right now. One of them is a senior and the other is a freshman and the oldest one is about a 6'6" shooting guard. They are both originally from PEEBLES.

Wouldn't that have been something if they Setty boys hadn't moved from Peebles. Esp the freshman, put him with the guards Peebles has, unstoppable!

If memory serves me correct, Mason Co. plays their first game of district tourney tonight at Bracken Co. vs. St. Patrick (Maysville).

If the Setty brothers didnt go to Mason County, I dont believe either would be as good as they are. Being at Mason County will better their chances for a scholarship to college. They are already being seen by Div 1 coaches that have been to see Miller. I think Justice from Peebles should also go to Mason County to better himself. MC JV team is pretty good from what I have heard.

Mason Co. won last night by around 40. The competition they play night in and night out is top notch compared to what they would regularly see in most Ohio leagues. The Div 1 scouts/coaches haven't been coming just for Darius but for Trevor also. The freshman went undefeated and I believe the JV did too, they may have lost one or two though. Treg Setty was oftentimes the leading scorer for both freshman and JV. The Royals will def. be losing a lot to graduation but have a bright future coming up as well.

Don't think you have to worry about Justice going anywhere. His family is life-long Peebleonians (???) LOL !!!

I don't think you can compare apples to oranges. A lot of their games this year have been with less than stellar teams, with wins by 30 or 40. I'm not taking anything away from Mason County's talent by any means, but to see that all the teams they face "night in and night out are top notch" might be overstretching it a bit. I've been to several games the past couple years and seen teams that me and a few of my buddies could probably beat. To say the Setty boys wouldn't have been as good if they'd played in Peebles is crazy.

Mason County has proven to be a program that produces great players, Lofton is a prime example. Colleges are more likely to give offers to players from there on the fact that the program has proven themself and for every few bad teams they play, they play one of the better teams in the state. SHL junkie, you say they would be just as good, I have to disagree. Mason Countys JV team could beat any of the teams in the SHL. Thier style of ball, pressure defense and up tempo style would be to much for any team in the SHL. It will be hard for Justice to get half the looks he would get by going to Mason County.

Baller, I was with you up to the JV statement. I think that may be a bit strong but I do agree that players at Mason County are going to get more looks from bigger schools. No telling how many have been there to watch Miller. I have also heard the rumors of Justice going there and could see why he would do so although I doubt he does.

Mason Co. plays the toughest schedule in KY. I know of at least twice when it was them vs. #1 or #2 in the state. That's not even mentioning the top 25 teams in the NATION they faced in Hawaii. Obviously they weren't playing this kind of competition nightly, but pretty regularly. I'm not sure about their JV beating any team in the SHL but I'm sure it'd be close!

Obviously with a D-1 bound player on the team, you're going to get more looks and having Lofton the previous years certainly doesn't hurt. I'm not taking anything away from the talent they have but I'm not sure that it's the program that is "producing the talent" or thankfully for the program the talent happened to be there, or in some cases, move there. I agree they've played some good competition. Not sure what happens when you take Miller out of the mix, the game last week with Bryan Station showed a little something. But yeah, the JV comment, let's don't go there.

Baller1, thats an awful bold statement that isn't given much thought. I'm not saying it isn't true but it is purely speculation. Because you will never find out. One thing to consider though is..... Mason County is a COUNTY school. Much larger in size than any SHL school. If you combined the Brown County Schools, Ripley, Georgetown, Eastern Brown. Or Adams County, North Adams, West Union, Peebles and Manchester you would have a nice team. I don't think there are any D1 players but it would be much stronger. So while you drum your chest, just give that some thought.

So has Trevor Setty been signed by any D-1 schools yet?

I've heard Louisville, WV, UK, NKU, Morehead, Air Force Academy as the big schools. I'm sure some smaller ones as well. Who knows though?

Mason County beat Elliott County in the Kentucky Sweet 16 State Tournament held at Rupp Arena in Lexington last night.
