Chillicothe Cavaliers 59 Newark Wildcats 53-FINAL
boys, boys, boys...i agree that you need to be able to stall and run time off the clock to protect a lead. my point is that yesterday we let them back in the game trying to do just that. We let the lead go from 10 all the way down to 2 with a full minute still remaining in the game. i'm with hitchbone, i'd like to see us go to a semi-stall or spread the floor like we usually do and leave hump up top and let him dribble til pressured, drive and dish. at this point we simply arent secure enough with the ball to execute the stall. i also believe there is a difference in being up 8 or so with a minute to go and stalling and being up 10 with 4 minutes to go and starting the stalling then. i just thought after we gave up a couple of easy buckets trying to run the stall we should have pulled out of it and went back to playing our game instead of staying in it and letting the lead get down to 2.
and thats just how it is...Dshanton3

chillicothe
Here's my take on Chillicothe. They run up and down the court and looks like they have no disciplined, they throw the ball away too much, and sometimes takes bad shots........Then I look up at the score board and they are ahead by 15 points. After seeing them a couple times this year and last year, I've come to the conclusion that they are so quick with their on the ball defense and quick with their press that is the type of game that suites them the best. They are disciplined to getting the opposing team to playing undisciplined! (how's that for making sense?)
I do agree in the Nerk game Sat, I was wondering why Kellough didn't go to a 4 corners with Hitchens handling the ball? That's what he did against Zanes last year in the tourney, and there was no answer for Hitchens quickness. If I'm coaching Chillicothe, (I'll send an e-mail to Kellough), when I get the lead in the 4th quarter, I'm going to the 4 corners everytime. Not many kids in Ohio that i've seen that can guard Hitchens with his quickness, and with that type of offense, it creates such easy basket's. (If Hitchens plays in control!). I have to also admit, it's really hard to watch the dramatic's of that little guy. He was talking to some guy in the front row all game Sat (was that his father?), and Ive seen him play maybe 6 or 7 games over the past two years and it seems like every game their is a "ham it up" moment. "BUT", I have to admit, the kids got skills!

d and b,
Isn't it nice to be discussing (respectfully) a Cavs team at 10-1. A far cry from where we were 2 years ago (and last year at this time). We are close to the program, so we can be a bit critical. One of you is obviously closer then the other (say no more), but all of us have the same passion.
You both know now, how it was "back in a day". At least once the fans come out. I would like to see a sold out house Friday night, and then a strong contingent show up in Wellston.
We play Newark ten times, we get 7 wins.
GO CAVS!!!

Hitch. Yes it is nice to discuss our strategies and be somewhat critical. I think sometimes we are too critical and don't enjoy the moment. When is the last time Chillicothe played a game at Ohio State and beat an OCC Newark team? When is the last time Chillicothe played at US BANK ARENA and beat a powerhouse program like North College Hill? When is the last time Chillicothe recorded 20 wins in a season? When is the last time Chillicothe won a regional game beating several top ranked opponents. All of these things Chillicothe has done here recently. They are trying to build upon last year and make a run to the state tournament. And yet sometimes I read stuff on here that makes me laugh because a few years ago NO ONE cared about this program. I enjoy watching these kids and I would like to say keep up the good work!! Winning spoils us all! Go Cavs!!

Congratulations to the Cavaliers from this Portsmouth Trojans fan who watched the game.
With all the blowouts that Chillicothe has had in the SEOAL, I think this game was GOOD for the Cavaliers......although it got very interesting in the last minute or so, it really shouldn't have.....but CHS survived.
A close win is always better than a close loss. This was the type of game that Chillicothe will see most likely in the regional.

trojandave,
Great talking to you Saturday. Nothing like a great day of b-ball. All the games were very good (exception maybe Northland/DeSales)
GO CAVS!!! and Good Luck to the Trojans this week!
oh i'm well aware that i'm nitpicking here boys. but im a glass half empty guy by nature so i have to find something to vent about since we havent lost in 10 games! i just dont want to see us winning comfortably down the road against a good team and pull out to early and squander the opportunity for a big win. but i have faith that wont happen.
tropical...yes that was Humpty's father sitting in the front row. he's always yelling directions at hump every game but he knows his son's game better than anyone and i can tell you whether people like it that he's interacting with him or not, he's getting good advice.

tropical...Just to add to DJ point, Humps father was there, but wsa not yelling directions the whole game. He was only there for a half and was pretty much quiet for the most part. According to most, I was the loud one and I was hollering at all of them. REFUSE TO LOSE!!!! That is what we did.
GO CAVS!!!
OK- guys 10-1 is awsome. getting a ouality win (Newark-thats it- Please don't say N Collage Hill was big. PLEASE! they are a good D-3 not great D-3 program that Chilli should have and did beat.) Newark has been the best win for this team. And Re-guarding Nitpicking IT is OK. No this program has not seen this kind of winning in a long long time. However holding this team to a high standard is good. If this team is truly one of the top teams in the state excellence is going to be expected. Guys it just goes with the terrritory. Hitch you should no this from your time as a Cav.
I am one who agree's. In fact if we spread it out in the closing minutes in the Brookhaven game we win. Humpty is are main attraction. And is one of the best point gaurds in the state. When the game is on the line or the team is being challenged. The Ball has got to be in his hands Period.
FACT- Big time players rise up in big time situation.
Not to take anything away from the team it is just the facts. If we are going to win or lose lets do with the ball in his hands. This is how it is spose to happen. (Ask Greenfield who had the ball last year when the game was on the line.
Don't fire back with the thought that this team has other options when the game is on the line or they need to close a game out. They dont. We need to stay with are strength. RUN RUN PRESS PRESS and when the game is on the line spread it out and let Humpty GO GO GO !
GO CAVS

Baller3, you echoed my sentiments exactly... after several 30, 40, and even 50 point wins, Coach K and his staff KNEW a game (and finish) like this was coming sooner rather than later. This was their strategy, and it worked. It may be "tweaked" somewhat for down the road, but don't look for wholesale changes when up late and protecting a lead. Again, this is a great problem to have, and the more they do it, the better the kids, and coaching staff, should become at it. Go Cavs!!!
