GoBrownies3 wrote: Tue Dec 10, 2019 9:47 pm After watching waverly SW game, Waverly doesn’t look too hot early, Webster has good pieces but similar to waverly had no offensive flow. I’ve said it before on here Robertson is hands down the best guard in the conference maybe all of southern Ohio, Wallis at Jackson only one close that I’ve seen. 32, 25, 31, and 20 in waverly’s 4 outings this year
Waverly was down 15 in the 1st half and went a run to end the half down 1 at 27-28. Smallwood was 2-2 from the line, Will Futhey with a bucket and Zeke Brown 1-2 from the line to close out the half. Robinson with 14 in the half.
South Webster came out hot to start the 2nd half and was up 11 or 12 at one point. South Webster held a 10 point lead at 54-44 with 3:58 to play on a bucket by Trae Zimmerman. From there it was all Waverly.
Smallwood scored with 3:11 followed by a steal and bucket by Robertson with 2:46 to cut it to 54-48. With 2:12 to play Robertson connected on 2 FT’s followed by a follow up tip in by Smallwood with 1:51 to make it 54-52. Senior Michael Goodman scored with 1:32 to play followed by a steal and bucket by Will Futhey with 1:11 to play for the 56-54 Tiger lead.
Robertson hit a pair of FT’s with .34 to play to make 58-54 Waverly. Zimmerman connected on 2 FT’s with .26 to make it a 2 point game again but Robertson hit the first of 2 FT’s with .22 to play and Smallwood 1-2 from the line after getting the missed Robertson FT to make it 60-56 Waverly. Robertson then hit 2 FT’s with 3.3 to play for the final 62-56

Robertson 8-9 from the line in the 4th and finished with 33 points.
Tanner Smallwood with a great night on the boards and added 11 points, 7 big points in the 4th.
Will Futhey added 10 points and a nice night on the glass.
Zeke Brown and Michael Goodman 4 each

Baden Brockway lead SW with 18, 9 each half and 4 threes, three in the 3rd.
Trae Zimmerman added 17
Andrew Smith with 12
Devyn Coriell 7
Gabe Ruth 2

Several Waverly players are still in football mode and slowly coming back from injuries. Stulley is out til mid January so getting him back will help as well. Tigers at 3-1 trying to survive a few more weeks to get everyone going.

Excellent recap as always. Worth noting Zimmerman fouled out with 3-4 minutes remaining in the game. He was not on the floor for half of the 4th quarter which coincidentally everytime he was on the bench the tigers got back in the game and closed the gap.

Oak Hill over Minford in Overtime. I’m telling you Minford is gonna put the hurt on a few this year.

Burg blows out Valley in their season opener

Waverly with the come back win in the down town arena over the fightin’ Jeeps

Eastern with another W.

Burg started off very slow then kicked it into gear to blow out the Indians. Huge performances from Sanderlin and Truitt
One takeaway from the game is Burg's struggle from the line must improve to win closer games.

Right now Burg is the favorite

Oak Hill and Minford are two 'solid' teams that are playing pretty disciplined ball. They could play spoiler but not sure they have the horses to beat Burg.

Waverly needs to find a way to grind out a few more weeks until they become healthy. If they can do that with only 1-2 league losses total they'll have a chance to make a push for a share of the title later in the year.

As of today I'd predict

1.) Wheelersburg
2.) Oak Hill
3.) Waverly
4.) Minford
5a.) South Webster
5b.) Valley
5c.) Eastern
8.) West
9.) Northwest

The 3 teams tied for 5th could interchange depending on if any team gets relatively hot throughout the season.

Teams 2-4 are capable of potentially beating the Burg but I can't see Burg having more than 1-2 league losses total.

I would reconsider west being at the 8 spot they will easily be able to compete with them top tiered teams. Might note that they did give waverly a tough battle until the end @ waverly

South Webster also just had Waverly beat @ Waverly (led the entire game until a couple minutes left)... and South Webster lost to Valley by 15 at home.

So, no, how West fared at Waverly doesn't really help their cause. How they do against Valley-Eastern-Webster will help determine where they should be.

And Waverly was terribly short handed.
