1) Chillicothe (07-08): one of best state tournament finals ever.
2) Ironton (04-05): took OJ Mayo, Bill Walker and Co. down to the wire in State Final.
3) South Webster (05-06): State Champs with two D1 players...enough said.
4) Wheelersburg (06-07): two D1 players but lost heartbreaker to Cincinnati North College Hill in State semis.
5) Oak Hill (08-09): State Champs...gotta be on the list.

Just missed: Ironton (12-13); Portsmouth (11-12); Warren (12-13); Wheelersburg (05-06); South Webster (03-04); Portsmouth (10-11); South Webster (04-05); Piketon (08-09).*

I think Art has it right......Lighty was at OSU in 2007 with Oden and Conley in the Final Four.

That is correct....for some reason I had it in my mind that it was the other way around.

I was surprised 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 De Sales didn't win state. So much individual talent

My list is mostly limited to teams that reached State...with that said, there have been some real good teams not listed that either hit a tough team or just had a bad night in tournament play.

4th and goal: for some reason, I had originally thought it was that way too. But I figured it out same as crab did when I recalled that Lighty was at tOSU in 2006-07 with Oden/Conley/etc. If I remember right, Lighty had like 35pts and 13 rebounds against Burg in 06.

Crab: would be nice to see Valley get a shot at VASJ and Carlton Bragg this year in Columbus.*

Eastern meigs 04 05 team was very good. Lost to A cheating afrocentric team in regionals and was only team to give them a game. Also lost to the 04 05 Ironton team that year on a buzzer beater by Howard.

Never should've made the regionals. To this day that District Final was the shadiest refereeing I've even witnessed in a tournament game. I walked away from that game thinking I'd rather have Nathan Cozart's dad as one of the refs over the ref that killed that game.

I was at that game also and I agree with you. That said I still feel they were still the second best D4 team in the state that year and the best team cheated and had their title stripped

Portsmouth Trojans since 2010:

Overall record: 83-32
20 win seasons: 21-5 in 2011, 24-3 in 2012
Regional titles: 2
State appearances: 2011 and 2012
State Runnerup: 2012
League titles (SEOAL): 2 (2012, 2014)
AP Rankings: #6 2012, #10 2011, #12 2014

I don't think there's any question that Portsmouth has made the biggest improvement of any SE District program in the past decade. From 2003-2009, the Trojans went 52-100, with 7 straight losing seasons.

Both Portsmouth and Wheelersburg accomplished the extremely rare feat of going to back to back Final 4's........the Burg in 2006 and 2007, while PHS turned the trick in 2011 and 2012. It's tough enough to make it once, but to do it back to back is even more difficult.

I think that Chesapeake's state team of 2010 has to be mentioned, and their 2011 team, which had virtually everyone back, was a really tough team that lost 69-68 to Portsmouth in the regional finals.

WHS95Fan: Ironton beat the Trojans in the regular season and in the sectional final (54-30 at Jackson). The Fighting Tigers were a tough team, but they didn't roll through everybody in the tournament. Ironton beat Bloom-Carroll 65-59 in 2OT in the regional final.

2009 Logan Elm - Final Four, lost in overtime of state semifinal. Chillicothe had a fantastic team in 2008 like folks have mentioned. Then you throw in the other usual suspects. - Oak Hill, Ironton, Portsmouth, South Webster, Piketon who have got to the show and some of which broke back the prize.

If we're talking area you have to include the 2006-2007 Huntington Highlanders with OJ Mayo and Patrick Patterson

Westerns Regional Final team from 07-08 was a half court shot at the buzzer from going to state. Fun team to watch. White, McCloud, and Shanks leading the way. All 1000 pt scorers. McCloud with 2000+.
