First sheds of the season.

Post by Baz55 »

Well i had a little bit of free time on my hands and since i have 3 bucks on cam that have already shed i figured i would hit up the Crown City Strip Mines for some early season shed hunting! I came up with 1 fresh shed, it still had the wax ring, and blood on the bases. I also came up with a nice 4 point side that i missed from last season, and a small Non-typical shed that i have missed the past 3 season!!! Its an old one!

Where are the best places to look for sheds?

I generally look in bedding areas, or browsing areas. If there is honey suckle around they love it this time of the year too. Between me and my brother we have pulled around 15 sheds out of this same spot that is only about 3 acres.

Here's some sheds I have found while out looking for Indian artifacts, plus some pictures of Arrowpoints and Flakers made from Deer Antler.

I had a nice 8 or 10 pointer walk across the road in front of me yesterday evening so some of them must still have their racks on them. :)

found my first shed on Tuesday night, it was a small 3 point. Looked like maybe a first yr. rack!

Great collection. I have been searching for artifacts for a few years now. Don't have that much but have picked up some nice heads and scrapers.

Still getting pics with most bucks still carrying their antlers. Very few have dropped.

Since I have only found 2 sheds in my life and they were both in the same spot in two different seasons, where would be the best place for me too look, i hunt a big thickets, with big fields and a gas line that surround it!

Walk the trails thru the thickets and along the edges of the fields. I have found them in the wide open also. I just start walking different trails

Since most bucks still have their antlers, and with this best snow patter were having, when should we start shedding hunting hardcore? thoughts?
