Yeah, I went out one of those sunny afternoons a few days ago and threw a few around the edges and a few out in the deep holes. It was really only about 40 degrees (air temp.) and windy and I never got bit once.
Still waiting and hoping.......... :)

I just went back and checked last year and it was getting up in later MARCH  before any numbers were being caught around here.

If you have access to small ponds hit the north end of them first with traditional spring baits and you should have some luck. ;-)

Thanks. I was fishing in a local farm pond that is about 1 - 1 1/2 acres. The north end is the shallow end and that was the 1st place I hit. I believe they are still down in the deep holes. A few warm days should bring them up to the shallower waters.

a friend of mine and I used to go to Ohio Storms Creek, the backwaters, back in the 80's to fish in Feb. We'd take my old John Boat (you ain't going get a bass boat up there now I don't think) and we'd slay these small bass on yellow spinners...Mepps I think they were. When we'd get there in the morning..the water would be in the upper 30's...a few hours later it would be in the mid-50's as that water was so muddy and shallow and they would turn on then

I remember having a Mepps lure as a kid. It had a gold spinner with a couple of small trebble hooks and rubber minnow body. Very similar to the one below.

I don't remember Mepps ever making a yellow spinner. Could it have been a Rooster Tail? The Mepps bait mostly used was an inline spinner with grey squirrel tail and a red streamer in the middle of it. They are still good.

I have a Mepps #2 Black fury spinner. I have fished it local, in Florida and in Canada. I have never used it and not hooked a fish, lost a few  .Best lure ever oh, got it at Kmart for 97 cents 30 years ago. It is still in my tackle box ;-)
