Cheddar's restaurant plans Memorial Day opening

By DAVID E. MALLOY
The Herald-Dispatch
ASHLAND -- The new Cheddar's restaurant in an Ashland Town Center outparcel will open for business on Memorial Day, said Lee Greer, president of the company which owns the Ashland restaurant and more than a dozen others, said Thursday.
The 8,400-square-foot restaurant will hire about 150 employees, Greer said from his Lexington, Ky., office. The company already has hired several managers for full-time positions, several dozen people will be hired for full-time jobs and the rest of the positions will be part-time, he said. Hiring is being done on site, he said. "We'll start hiring the hourly employees soon."
The restaurant serves eclectic American cuisine, including steaks, chicken, ribs and sandwiches and will have a city liquor license, Greer said. Cheddar's will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday to midnight or 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, he said.
"We're excited, Greer said. "It's getting close. We offer upscale, casual dining."
The restaurant has seating for 350, he said. It will be the company's fifth restaurant in Kentucky, including two in Lexington and one in Morgantown, W.Va.
Meanwhile, renovations are ongoing at the mall and construction is still under way at the new 104,000-square-foot Penney's store. The new store is scheduled to be open Aug. 1.
The play area at the Ashland Town Center Mall is being closed for several weeks for remodeling, said Merri Hern, mall manager.
New tile is being installed in the food court area, she said. The new family restroom is open and the men's restroom has been remodeled. The women's restroom will open Thursday, May 8, she said.
Charley's Steakery in the food court will reopen May 10th. It has been closed for remodeling, she said.
Zale's jewelry store in the mall also is being remodeled and will move to a temporary location for about six weeks starting May 15, Hern said.

They seemed to be owned by the same company as Captain D's. Here's a link to a menu.

The menu sounds pretty good. (It's making me hungry)!
We will have to try it out when it opens.

I'm sure we will during the first week but not on Memorial Day. It's the parade and the lake for me on that day. ![geek1 :12222](./images/smilies/icon_e_geek.gif)

I heard there was to be an ice cream party at the lake. We're prepared, Mom got one too. And as for flavor you should see the recipes I've gathered. The Rocky Road looks pretty good.

I also like homemade vanilla, made with with real vanilla flavoring, not the artificial stuff, with fresh strawberries on top.

I'VE SEEN THE CHEDDAR'S IN LEXINGTON, IT'S NEAR MY EYE SURGEON'S OFFICE. BUT WE USUALLY HIT UP CRACKER BARREL, OR THEIR TEXAS ROADHOUSE. BUT I HAD NO IDEA WHAT THEY SOLD THERE. SOUNDS SPENSIVE. ![new16 :aaaaa16](./images/smilies/faces/035.gif)
