Totally agree - both are favorites of mine.
When my granddaughter was assigned "..Mockingbird" as a book report in jr hi [about 15 yrs ago], I hunted up a copy of both the book and the movie for her.
Even that long ago, she was woefully ignorant of the segregationist history of the South that continued decades long after the Civil War - it was a real eye-opener.
I doubt today's jr hi kids raised in this positive civil-rights and politically correct environment have a good concept of the hatefulness of that historical era of culturally approved, legally enforced racism/segregation in this SUPPOSEDLY "freedom-loving" nation. Of course "racism" still exists - but NOT by law.
Getting to that point was a slow difficult journey of many sacrifices that required a century of struggle which should be taught/known/recognized/appreciated. And a novel/movie can demonstrate/illustrate those horrible times very well.
Those are both great books - high up on my reading list.
And they were both translated into equally great movies [POT very shortened]!

Agree - I really READ and enjoy actual BOOKS; I go to the library regularly.
I understand and appreciate all the new technology, but making "knowledge" widely available was a "print" medium advance and improvement. The real message is AVAILABILITY!!
READ, READ, READ, from whatever source, type, style or forum. LEARNING IS THE GOAL!
