I think he is just saying that he has learned more from life than he has from school!

Not at all. As I said, I've spent a lot of money on mine - ALL OUT OF MY POCKET. I work full-time and go to school full-time. If I had a problem with education, why would I spend 1000s of dollars to get one?

Here's my point: you can be a Rhodes Scholar with an IQ of 200, but that doesn't necessarily give you life smarts and it doesn't necessarily make you a leader.

You learn how to lead through experience, not book smarts. You become a better person by thinking and doing on your own, not sitting in a room and be told what to think or do.

I agree hands on is good.....But you need to learn to think for yourself, not become an automaton of corporate america..........Thinkng for yourself, comes from those educators, not a coach, or preacher.......... :12224

Too much of a good thing can be bad for you....... 8)

Our society has become too soft. We expect things to be given to us on a silver platter. We are extremely spoiled. What happened to our toughness, grit, and dogged determination?

Educators aren't leaders. They don't have nearly as much responsibility as a military officer or a preacher and to even compare to two is asinine. I'm studying to be a teacher and I know that.
But this has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. So why get political about it? Heck, you're a coach; you should be able to make a decent commentary on this subject without bringing corporate America into this.

A strong education is our building blocks/tools for the tool box to help guide us when faced with adversities and/or given situations. It is the foundation upon which the majority of us view the world, make decisions and/or carry about our daily task.

Experience can only be gained by applying what you have learnt in the classroom. You can only obtain this through on-the-job training by an already experienced cop, military sergeant, stockbroker, lawyer, doctor, educator, etc......Experience can't be taught! It must be obtained! Our life experiences can also lead us make us view the world from different angles, help us make decisions and/or carry about our daily tasks.

It is when we lack one or the other that we become unbalanced and make irrational decisions. We don't have the tools and/or the experiences to recognize a situation to overcome it. We are lost, confused and don't know where to seek answers. So, it is then we tend to become easily swayed by the politician, preacher, etc...and buy the snake oil they may be selling.

We all need balance from a strong family unit, to an exceptional educational system and lastly putting it all together on-the-job with guidance from those who are the experienced experts in a given field and from trial/error. If we have the tools in our boxes to recognize situations that face all children and adults, we will overcome most obstacles in life. When we lack one or the other, we flounder, like a fish out of sea.

I invite you to try it.........Those who can , do make a difference.............The point fuzzy, is coaches do not have to berate kids to show how tuff they are.....most of these coaches were frustrated little leaguers who now have a little authority.........I agree there should not be a trophy given to every player, and there should be winners and non-winners in sports, but there are no losers........To berate a team or a single player for losing the contest is simply not the way I would want my kids treated..........Its proven positive messages get better results than negatives comments.......... :12224

And exactly how is it you propose to gain the ability to read, write, spell, and punctuate - or to add, subtract, multiply, and divide without TEACHERS? Were you BORN with adequate knowledge and ability to "think and do on your own", or did you require some TEACHING and instruction along the way? And did you "practice" - work at or devote time to "improving your skills" - for anything an academic teacher suggested or required like you would have for an athletic coach?

No, they sort mail.

It's like you are on a mission to say a certain number of ignorant and baseless things per day.

Ridiculous, this statement. Old, common, and asinine.

Again, I wonder how many teachers you have had the courage to repeat that to. None, I'd venture to guess.

Did I not say earlier that coaches shouldn't be in it for their egos?

Blah, blah, blah. . . Of course you have to learn how to do all this stuff. But that's not the same as life wisdom or just common sense. You learn that on your own. You learn how to be a leader by being one.
