SOUTH CENTRAL 8TH GRADE GOLD TOURNAMENT SUNDAY 05-04 AT BRISTOL PARK WAVERLY:
Game 1 - Miami Trace vs. Fairfield at 1:30 winner plays Waverly at 3:30 winner advances to championship at 5:30.
Game 2 - Hillsboro vs. Greenfield at 1:30 winner plays winner of game 3 at 3:30.
Game 3 - Wilmington vs. Fayetteville at 1:30 winner plays winner of game 2 at 3:30. Winner of 3:30 games plays in championship at 5:30.

Silver bracket games and championship also to be played at Bristol park in Waverly on sunday 05-04 at roughly the same times.

Unioto sweeps Huntington in a double header
to go 10-0 in league play
and win the Scioto Valley Middle School League Title.
League Tournaments are next
Saturday and Sunday at Huntington.

Miami Trace defeated Fairfield.
Hillsboro defeats Greenfield.
Wilmington defeated Fayetteville.
Hillsboro defeats Wilmington in semifinals.
Waverly over Miami Trace in semifinals
Waverly defeats Hillsboro in Gold bracket Championship.
Waverlys finishes with a final junior high record of 29-1.

Congrats to Unioto on finishing undefeated in league play and also congrats to Valley on winning their league tournament championship.

I think a tournament of league champions would be very interesting. Does anyone know if its ever been done in junior high for the southeastern ohio area?

It has not been done in the past 5 years that I have been involved. Problem is, at least for the Southern Ohio JH group, it is not sanctioned. Many teams are using 6th graders. We (ND) had 8 on our roster this year. We cant start any earlier because weather does not permit and by the end of the 6 week season you are already running into travel ball and Little League conflicts.

I know ND made several calls to Unioto to try to get a game scheduled but we just could not get it coordinated. (too many schedule conflicts)

It was certainly a learning experience for us this year.
Making new contacts, finding field time, coordinating schedules,
Finding umpires ect...

Hopefully we have established some relationships that will make next
Year easier when it comes to picking up out of league games/scrimmages.

Would have liked to get a game in with ND, next year we will get it done.
We have tried to get another one with Waverly but again it looks like our schedule
Is not going to allow it.

I like the idea of a tournament of league champions.
"We have to take care of business this weekend before we can entertain the thoughts of playing in such an event"
Something to consider for next season, I doubt if schedules would allow for it to happen this year.

We have kicked around the idea of having a super jr high scrimmage next season similar to what Huntington's varsity does. It's just hard to schedule such an event when the weather can be so unpredictable in mid to late March.
