This the tournament that a couple of years ago posted in the Athens Messenger that it would provide individual trophies for teams winning first and second place. But at tournaments end presented individual trophies to only the first place team. The kids finishing second were a little upset to say the least. The guy in charge of the tournament said sorry we did not mean to run that add in the paper. Broken hearted 4th grade kids did not understand. Parents just figured that couple dollar medals or trophies for second place were to expensive after all it was a only $100.00 entry fee for team. Find another tournament to attend one where kids actually play for something. Shame on you Nelsonville.

Ok maybe the entry fee was only $90.00. But still medals or trophies do not cost much and kids think they r awesome to achieve.

Want to play in the best tournament in the area register to play in the Ralph Guthrie Memorial tournament held at Alexander. This is a class act ran tournament with no broken promises and winners are awarded.

What happened before was wrong but there are completely different people running this tournament now. It appears that your child was hurt by this and as a resident of ny schools I hate that and am sorry. But to discredit this tourney is just wrong. I just attended the girls tourney and both 1st and 2nd place teams received a team trophy and medals.

The contact name and number is the same person that told the parents and coaches that there would be no trophies for second place period. He said that they accidently ran the wrond ad in the paper. Many children were hurt by it not just one. They lined up to receive a medal a trophie or something after the championship game because there coach told them do not take off they are awarding 1st and 2nd. A tournament representative denied that the ad said 1st and 2nd individual awards. A parent just so happened to have the ad. When shown to him. He said all well get over it. It was then that they learned from the tournament leader that they would receive nothing. What good can be said about a tournament that does that. If you knew the ad was wrong, knew he would have no second place awards it should have been mentioned before the tourney started.

Well it sounds to me they learned from this error as the last two years first and second place received medals and trophies. We all heard what a great tourney ny biddy league ran. And that all the volunteers that help did a great job with the tournament. These people give up their wknds for many months to make sure our kids have the best and I applaud them for it.

Just wanted to know what type of format this will be? Single/Double elimination? How many games?

This will be pool play/single elimination bracket play. Guaranteed 3 games. Gyms are at one site and we offer full concessions.

So far a well ran tournament, some poor officiating but that's expected at the 4th grade level. Good luck to all the teams tomorrow!

Great Tournament ran by NYBA and John Hurd- the 6th grade tourny was very competetive with Vinton Co. and Alex the 2 dominate teams that made the Final...anyone know who won this game? I couldn't stick around to watch..
Again- very well run and the officials did an outstanding job in the 6th grade games! Most of the teams were local - other teams from a little further away should look into this tourny for different teams to play next year -good competition!

late,
sweetpea

I believe Vinton Co. won the game somewhere in the vicinity of 40-27. Maybe someone else will know exactly, but I know Vinton County did win.
