Former Ohio State All American John Brockington has died at age 74. A member of the SuperSophs recruiting class for Woody Hayes. In three seasons as a Buckeye, Brockington had 378 carries for 1,663 yards and 24 touchdowns. He made history in 1970 by rushing for 1,142 yards and 17 touchdowns, both of which were school records at the time, on 261 carries.

Brockington also had a short but productive career in the NFL with the Packers and Chiefs. He became the first player in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons in the league, earning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 1971 and making the Pro Bowl after all three seasons, in which he ran for 3,276 combined yards.

I had a chance meeting with Brockington in 1968 as he had hitched a ride back from Brooklyn with my dorm roommate. Quite a shy, mild mannered kid despite his football prowess.

Ohio State has the talent to contend for the Big 10 and win CFP. The big ifs are offensive line and secondary.

Steele Chambers and Xavier Johnson have suffered lower extrimity injuries meaning each will miss the remaining spring practices.

Coupled with Tommy Eichenberg's injury, the linebacker position is thin in depth for the spring.
This means Ironton's Reid Carrico will get second team snaps and a chance to prove he belongs higher up on the linebacker depth chart.

And speaking of Reid Carrico, he apparently is taking advantage of his opportunity to show his ability. Carrico got a nice mention in an Eleven Warriors article:

"Another standout at linebacker on Friday was redshirt sophomore Reid Carrico, who saw extended work with the second-team defense at Will linebacker with Hicks repping with the ones. Carrico’s name may have been called out for making plays by practice emcee Austin Edwards more than any other Buckeye during the portion of practice that was open to the media, in which Carrico made multiple pass breakups and was also quick to the ball as a run defender and blitzer."

Ohio State lands a class of 2024 commitment from 4 star quarterback "Air" Noland who is from Langston Hughes HS, in Fairburn, Georgia.

Noland fills a recruiting void created when Dylan Raiola decommited from the Buckeyes. Noland has the athleticism and skill plus intangibles to be a highly successful D1 quarterback

That said, given the current lack of recruiting regulations, his commitment may be just the opening gambit for a NIL bidding war for Noland's services. So far, TOSU has not appeared willing to play that game for incoming freshman, so young Mr. Noland may never suit up for the Bucks.

Surprisingly, the Georgia Bulldogs were not among the contenders for Noland's recruitment.

@Omega, that surprises me too! I wonder why?
