#3 Ohio State 49 Sparty 20 Saturday October 8th, 2022

Post by Omega »

Believe it or not the 2022 CFB season will reach the halfway mark this coming weekend.

Our OSU Buckeyes will finally make their first road trip of the year as they travel to East Lansing to face the Michigan State Spartans. The game will be broadcast on ABC at 4 pm.

The Spartans are off to a disappointing start after compiling a sterling 11-2 mark in 2021. They have lost three straight games includIng a 27-13 loss to Maryland this past week. Coach Mel Tucker's Spartans have been inconsistent on both sides of the ball this season. Simply said their 2021 magic is gone.

The Buckeyes open as 23 point road favorites. They will bring the nation's 3rd best total offense and 10th best total defense to bear against Sparty. However, MSU has history of killing Buckeye campaigns for national championships in 1974, 1998, 2013, and 2015. Nothing is guaranteed.

Thoughts?

Sparty is not as explosive in the running game as they have been in the past. Their defensive backfield gets torched.

Im not sure it will cover the spread because 23 points is a lot on the road......but I dont think OSU has many troubles with Sparty as long as they take care of the football.

If I read correctly, OSU is like 1-4 or 1-5 covering the spread in their last few games so 23 seems generous, however I still see the Buckeyes taking care of business with roughly a 17-20 point win

When you get into 40 point spreads and they win by 39, its a crap shoot.

OSU runs the football first. We will roll on.

I’ll say it every week…..

Trevyon Henderson / Miyan Williams
Best 1-2 punch in America. Period
and our offense line is playing like they are blocking for the best backs in the country too.

Add in a much improved stingy defense

Line em up boys…..the bucks can play with anyone

Ohio State's running game will be without Miyan Williams against Sparty. TreVeyon Henderson will have to return to form to carry the load. If not true frosh Dallan Hayden will have the burden.

OSU's passing attack came back to the forefront as the Buckeyes routed Michigan State 49-20.

OSU amassed 614 yards in total offense on the afternoon with 377 through the air and 237 on the ground.

Buckeye QB CJ Stroud completed 21 of 26 attempts for 361 yards, 6 touchdowns, against 1 interception that was returned for a touchdown by Sparty. Stroud established an OSU record of having thrown for 6 scores in three separate games.

Receiver Marvin Harrison snagged 7 passes for 131 yards and 3 touchdowns. His effort also set a record for a Buckeye receiver with 3 receiving touchdowns in 3 separate games.

TreVeyon Henderson led Buckeye rushers with 118 yards and 1 td on 19 carries. Frosh Dallen Hayden provided 70 yards on 14 carries.

While not totally lock down, the OSU defense held Sparty to 202 total yards and 2 scores. MSU could only manage 7 yards rushing on the day.

Next up for Ohio State is a much needed bye week before they host Iowa on October 22nd. State needs time to heal their nagging injuries and prep for a difficult second half of the season.

Bucky looked impressive but they should have against a very bad Sparty team whose pass defense is right near the bottom of college football and was missing 5 starters. Time to rest up then get ready for another snoozer against a bad Iowa team, then finally things get a little tougher as they make an early trip to take on trenchy's Nittany Kittens. I don't think that game has ever been played at noon which will help against them crazy normally juiced-up Nittany fans. The lions also might be a little beat up by then coming off a tough two-game stretch with ttun and Goldie Gopher. Update: the PSU game time has not been announced yet but likely be a noon kickoff the way they're talking.
