Valenth's Thoughts from Week 3...

Post by Valenth »

Another week in the books... heres my thoughts.

#1. The B1G West is going to come down to Minnesota and Wisconsin.

After witnessing upsets to Purdue and Northwestern. I think that Minnesota and Wisconsin are the top 2 teams in the West.

#2. B1G East.. Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State are the atop 3 in the East.

After Penn State went to Auburn and completely destroyed them.. They are a team to watch.

Also, It's pretty evident that Michigan State was WAY Overrated after being Handed an L at the hands of Washington.

#3. SEC... Wins by a Lot.. And some Way Closer than Thought...

Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee beat up their Opponents.

However Florida, Arkansas and Vanderbilt eek by their opponents.

#4. The honeymoon is over for Marshall sadly...

I believe they were still Hung over from their win at South Bend.. Bowling Green has been in Overtime games this year and got it done. Time for Marshall to Regroup.

#5. The Sun Belt is the Best Group of 5 Conference .. BY A MILE!

Appalachian State winning on a Hail Mary and other Sun Belt teams giving Power 5 Schools some True Scares... I believe that whoever comes out of the Sun Belt Conference as Champion could EASILY be Ranked in the top 15.. Maybe even 10.. Watch this Conference CAREFULLY.

#6. Notre Dame eeks out their first win...

They knock off a very Mediocre California team... I believe that Notre Dame is Coach Searching in the Trenches already. If Notre Dame doesn't get anymore than 6 wins.. We will see the Scott Frost Treatment happening in South Bend by the End of the Year.

#7. ACC had some Scares and Defeats.. Clemson still the Front runner.

Miami Falling.. Wake Forest Eeking by... the ACC is one of those Conferences you just dont know what is truly going to happen.

#8. PAC12 ... Oregon and Washington tops in the North.. USC in the South.. not much else to say here.

#9. BIG XII.. Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas and...KANSAS?

THE Jayhawks defeating a decent Houston Team is now riding a Wave of Winning right now and are the surprise team in the BIG XII by Far. Let's see if they can pull off some more upsets in Conference Play.

Your thoughts?

Once again you are spot on Valenth. Week 3 had a more normal feel. I found only one David vs. Goliath upset, which was Southern Illinois beating Northwestern.

As to Marshall, three turnovers did not aid their cause. An interesting factoid is that The Herd is only 2-15 in games played at Doyt Perry Stadium.

As to Freeman at Notre Dame, I think the school will be patient with him as coach. Reference Gerry Faust, and Charlie Weiss.

I was gifted tickets and a trip to watch Georgia play Carolina in Columbia. Two takes:

1.) Georgia is as advertised, maybe better. Ohio State may be close in talent, but UGA plays with an unreal confidence.

2.) Although I enjoyed the afternoon, I am too damned old and decrepit to do it again. The traffic, parking, crowds, ramps and steps did me in.

Ol Miss just keeps on winning as well. So far, Georgia has outscored opponents 130-10.

I wouldn’t be surprised if USC plays in the college football playoffs

On tv against Fresno, USC looked the part. Big, strong, fast. The transfer portal and NIL dollars delivered.

I am sure Urban has got the itch to get back in. Nebraska has the resources despite their recent mediocrity. I just don't know if they would seriously consider Meyer with his Jaguar baggage. Urban would get the Huskers back to a 9 or 10 win program pretty quick.

Edit: additional thought

Would Urban bide his time at age 58 until Notre Dame opens up or (gasp) Michigan.?

Youll never see him coach the Wolverines. He has made that pretty clear. But he has said in the past that he would coach at ND or USC. Given Lincoln RIley seems to be planted at USC for the next few years and they will more than likely be patient with Freeman at ND, I wouldnt rule a marriage between Nebraska and Urban out of the question.

Just another acceleration of an inevitable firing which is today's trend.

His tit was in the wringer over violation of NCAA covid restrictions on practice and recruiting. That and mediocre at best records despite being in the recruiting hotbed of Arizona.

After season potential hires: Tom Herman? Dan Mullen?

I like both.

BO'B basically did miracles and saved the Penn State from collapse back in 2012. Yet he has some NFL baggage and may be too old school for the current college game.

Leopold probably can get bigger jobs if he keeps the Jayhawks headed in the right direction.

Of course both names also seem to be on Nebraska's list.
