TOSU Hires Bill Mosiello From TCU As New Head Baseball Coach

Post by Omega »

Ohio State has hired Bill Mosiello as its new baseball coach. Mosiello replaces Greg Beals who was fired after the 2022 season.

In a dozen years at OSU, Beals finished with a 346-288-1 record overall and a 141-139 mark in Big Ten play. Beals led OSU to three NCAA tournament appearances in 2016, 2018 and 2019 and won the Big Ten tournament in 2016 and 2019.

His firing comes after Ohio State finished 12th in the Big Ten this past season with a 8-14 conference record (21-30 overall), only finishing ahead of Minnesota and Michigan State.

Mosiello, age 58, was the associate head coach at TCU and has 35 years of baseball coaching experience in both college and minor leauges. He has had prior coaching stops at Tennessee, Vandy, and was with TCU for CWS appearances.

Mosiello is not exactly an exciting hire that will lead OSU baseball to bigger and better things, but he appears to be a safe hire to raise Buckeyes to respectability in the Big 10.

Honestly the quality of Big 10 baseball is below that of many small school programs in the Sun Belt and West Coast. Big 10 baseball is an afterthought behind football, basketball, hockey, and even lacrosse.
