Yes, today stunk but it is better to drop this one than in the Big tourney.

The regular season has reached a merciful end. Michigan overcame a 7 point half time deficit with s 14-1 run midway through the last stanza to seal the game.

Statistically, OSU out rebounded UM and had a better shooting percentage, but turnovers including 11 steals by the Wolverines gave them more shots on goal.

State finished 12-8 in conference play, tied with Rutgers for 5th place. However the Buckeyes lose the tiebreaker with RU and will have the sixth seed in the upcoming tournament. OSU will play on Thursday against the winner of Penn State vs Minnesota or Nebraska.

After a big win against Duke and challenging for the top spot in the Big 10 as little as 4 weeks ago, Coach Holtmann's team suffers another late season collapse.
Edit:

Iowa lost late last night so State actually finished tied for fourth in the Big 10 with the Hawkeyes and Rutgers. The Buckeyes still draw the 6th seed in the conference tournament due to tie breakers

Tomorrow night, March 10th, Ohio State opens Big Ten Tournament play against the winner of tonight's game between Minnesota and Penn State.

Kyle Young will miss the game and Zed Key is doubtful due to injuries. Maybe Joey Brunk can step in help the Bucks avoid a one and done.

State is projected as a 6th seed in March Madness, but that likely is dependent on the Buckeyes winning two games in the Big 10 tourney. That may be a hard task given the teams late season collapse and injuries.

Ohio State will face Penn State tonight. The 11th seeded Lions defeated Minnesota last night, 60-51.

The Bucks are 2-0 against PSU this season. OSU won in Happy Valley 76-64 back on Dec. 5th, and 61-56 in Columbus on Jan. 16.

Buckeyes badly miss Kyle Young! Him and Key both need to be back or it will be another early exit in the big dance.

Yeah, the BasketBucks are collapsing. PSU outscored the Bucks 47-35 in the second half for the 71-68 win.

EJ Liddell snared 25 points for OSU but it was not enough for the win.

Watching the second half, Penn State simply out hustled the Buckeyes. They played to win while the Buckeyes played not to lose. I like Holtmann as a coach, but his job will be in jeopardy.

Holtmanns job should be in jeopardy. This is OSU.....not Barbwire Tech. Deep pockets and high expectations should have a better coach than this.

Lack of effort and being out coached has been the result of the OSU Holtmann teams.

Time for a change but I bet they give him 2 more years.

He will be back like you said. Yet I wonder what the University's true expectations of the basketball program are? National Championships or just win more than you lose while keeping your nose clean in recruiting?

Loyola is 25-7 and won the Missouri Valley Conference. The Rambles reached the sweet 16 last year. State and Loyola will face off Friday in Pittsburgh.

Ohio State 54 Sister Jeans 41

The Buckeyes survive and advance to the round of 32 where they likely will play 2nd seeded Villanova this Sunday.

EJ Liddell led OSU with 16 points while Malaki Braham tallied 14. The return of Kyle Young and Zed Key helped OSU dominate the rebounding and the game.

So nice to see Kyle Young back! Totally different team when he is on the floor and gives them energy. Defense was pretty good but Loyola missed a ton of easy shots and free throws. That won't happen next time!

State, now 20-11, will face the 27-7 Villanova Wildcats on Sunday in Pittsburgh. The 2nd seeded Cats have won 20 of their last 24 games and figure to be a solid favorite in this game.

The Ohio State basketball season came to an end today. Ohio State lost this game because of poor guard play and being so sloppy. Not sure Nova was the better team. Their guards bullied the Buckeyes all day, that’s been the case all season. Sloppy passes and bad shots as well. Losing Kyle Young down the stretch hurt. Nova was much more physical all day, scoring at will down low. Nice comeback though, Branham and Liddell took over, Key played well for a bit. Season of what could’ve been. Missing Sueing & Towns all year, Young & Key for several games. Never had that 3rd scoring option, Sueing would have been that guy. Nice freshman year for Branham, hoping he comes back but I’m not confident in that. I think he could definitely get drafted. I’m sure this is the last we’ve seen of EJ Liddell. He should and likely will turn pro. Good career for him if so. Nice highly rated recruiting class coming in next year and the Buckeyes will need it if both Branham & Liddell are gone. Some guards and a big man. The team will also lose Jimmy Sotos, Joey Brunk, Jamari Wheeler, Kyle Young and Cedric Russell to graduation. Towns & Sueing could both return if they want, hard to say how that will play out. I think you’ll see the Buckeyes in the transfer portal as well. Fun season, frustrating season due to what could have been. Already excited for next season.

Great summary. A season with big wins and inexplicable losses. A team with good talent but one lacking backcourt leadership and scoring balance. Hoping that with the recruits coming in , 22-23 will be a better season.
