Minnesota has signed Tracy Claeys to a three year contract as head football coach of the Golden Gophers. Claeys was named as interim head coach when Jerry Kill resigned due to health reasons last month. Claey apparently had been on Kill's staff for twenty one years. It appears Claeys, like Kill, is hard nosed, getting the most out the available talent on the roster. Being an old crank, part of me praises Minny for what appears to be an old school hire. Yet, I question if Claeys has the ability to recruit well enough in todays environment to take the Gophers to a higher competitive plateau, something the BIG definitely needs in the playoff world that includes strength of schedule.

He deserves it. It will give them stability that they sorely need. I think it is a better hire then other B1G teams in the West have done recently at the very least.
